Oklahoma/Baylor still playing but things have gotten really murky. The teams looking good right now are Alabama, Clemson, maybe Notre Dame, & maybe Ohio State. Stanford is eliminated, the PAC-12 is gone, Houston won 35-34 but still plays Navy. Ohio State must play Michigan St, & Michigan. Iowa has an easy path to the Big 10 CG but can they beat anyone worth a darn? Notre Dame must play Stanford & Okie State must play Baylor & Oklahoma, so the possibility of a complete meltdown is very possible for the 4 team playoff. So much uncertainty. I'm waiting for end of OU/Baylor game.

Down goes Baylor! Oklahoma 44  Baylor 34. Art Briles will be beating his poor dog tonight.

There would be a lot more chaos if all these teams remained undefeated.   Grin

Anything can happen.  I think probably 3 of the spots will be without dispute, but the fourth spot will be the controversial decision.  As the last spot always will be.  The playoff didn't end controversy, it only changed the controversy from who's number 2 to who's number 4.

That was true last year.  No one disputed the top 3, it was Ohio State jumping past TCU and Baylor that had everyone upset.

Still a lot of football to be played, and anything can happen.

Currently, it looks like there could be a dispute brewing between Notre Dame and the Big12 for the 4th spot.

The PAC12 will complain if they have a one-loss conference champion and get left out.  No one will care.

I think Bama wins out and wins the SEC again this year.  Auburn is down, and Florida isn't the same team without Will Grier.

I think Ohio State gets their act together and wins the Big10.  They're a better team than Michigan, Michigan State or Iowa.  And putting Barrett at QB makes them dangerous.

These are the two best teams in the country.

I'm not solid on Clemson.  Clemson could still lose in the ACC Championship.  They're probably 50/50 to make the playoffs.

I too, think tOSU is as dangerous as anyone in the country with Barrett at QB. I also agree with what you said about Clemson. Everyone is completely overlooking North Carolina. They are an excellent team. The season opening loss to USCe was a complete fluke. They've crushed everybody since then. They are very capable of beating Clemson in the ACCCG, plus Clemson has to play at USCe. They are down this year, but that game will be their Superbowl.

I think the only real question is, will an undefeated or one loss Big 12 team, make it in over ND?

The PAC 12 is out.  That leaves the other four power conferences and Notre Dame fighting for four spots.  An undefeated Oklahoma St. would get in ahead of Notre Dame.  A one loss ND would get in ahead of a one loss Big 12 champion, in my opinion.  Things will work themselves out.

The good news for Bama is if we win we're in.  We don't have to worry about anyone else.

And Oklahoma is a pretty good football team right now.  They're explosive enough on offense that I wouldn't want to see Bama face them.

True; we win, we're in.  At least that's certain.

The committee has said that conference champions get the nod.  That could eliminate Notre Dame if it's close.  But it appears that the Big-12 undefeated champ will be ND's competition.  I don't see them out-polling ND.

Plenty of losses ahead for the top teams:
Okla - Ok State
Clemson-UNC
Ohio St - Mich, Mich State, Iowa
Notre Dame - Stanford

We're not close to knowing the final 4 yet!

If anything, the top 4 teams tightened their grip on the playoffs, each team winning by double digits.

Teams 5-10 did not fare as well:

5.  Iowa barely beat Minnesota
6. Baylor lost to OK
7. Stanford lost to Oregon
8.  OK State came from behind to barely beat Iowa State
9.  LSU lost to Arky
10.  Utah lost at Arizona

With Stanford's loss, and Temple's loss, one issue that will come up is Notre Dame's strength of schedule.  What is their best win now?  Navy?  USC?

The selection committee guidelines provide:

"providing enough flexibility and discretion to select a non-champion [conference] where that particular non-champion or independent is unequivocally one of the four best teams in the country."

Not sure Notre Dame really meets this test.   Huh?

I think if OK, wins out, they will have a better resume than ND and could very well be team #4 and jump ND.

I don't know how it will work out but you know the networks would love to see Bama, Ohio State, Oklahoma and ND in a playoff. All 4 are college football royalty.

North Carolina was up 45-0 on Miami before coasting to a 59-21 win.  Clemson will have their hands full.

I do think OK State or OK could easily jump ND, considering how ND's opponents keep losing.
