My new avatar kicks off the "Henry for Heisman" campaign drive.  Unlike Fournette last year, Henry did not "strike a pose," Madonna style, in the end zone.  Instead, his pose, and Heisman moment, is an in-game photo of a real BA punishing defenders on his way to 200+ yards and 3TDs.

As I said on another thread, I'm still not ready to put Henry ahead of Fournette in the Heisman run.  Although Henry was incredible in the head-to-head game against LSU, he still trails him quite a bit statistically. In eight games Fournette has 195 attempts for 1383 yards giving him an average of 7.09 yards per carry.  He has scored 16 TD's while carrying the ball 24.38 times per game for a 172.88 yd/game average (This particular stat dropped due to the Bama defense from about 193 y/g average).  Henry has played nine games and has had 218 carries for 1254 total yards giving him a 5.75 yards per carry average.  The only stat that Henry leads is with his 17 TD's.  He also averages 24.22 carries per game with a 139.33 yards per game average.  While Henry is good, REAL good, I am not convinced even after his effort against the corndogs that he is better than Fournette.  Feel free to rip me apart as you feel so inclined.

I hear what you're saying, but outside the Bama game, Fournette has only gone up against one decent defense; Florida. Maybe you could make a case for Miss St in that, but LSU is just now getting into the games against teams we've already played. Let's see how he fares against Ole Miss, Arky and TAMU and then we can compare his stats to Henry.

I agree.  That sounds like a plan...

As Henry acknowledges, much of what a RB is able to accomplish starts with the OLine.

If you look at Fornette's stats, especially yards before contact, you'll see just how well the LSU OLine has done opening up holes for Fournette in their early games.  Many of the yards were gained by Fournette without anyone laying a hand on him.

But I'm not trying to make a case that Henry is a better RB than Fournette.  I think Henry is more of a beast, harder to bring down than Fournette.  Henry is a huge RB with great speed.  Fournette has slightly more speed and a lower center of gravity; he is quicker with his cuts, his footwork.  Probably, Fournette will have more success in the NFL, depending on where he goes, but the Heisman is a college football trophy.  Because a RB's success is OLine dependent, a RB's Heisman also acknowledges the OLine.

Really I don't care who wins the beauty pageant, popularity vote that is the Heisman Trophy any more than I care what the talking heads outside the playoff committee say about rankings.  I'm much more interesting in the national championship race.  I just thought it was a cool photo and decided to share.

Fournette hurt his changes some Saturday bringing him back into the pack of Heisman contenders. Henry helped himself elevating himself into the pack of contenders. Fournette is no longer the clear cut favorite. The last few weeks of the season will decide the winner but both of these guys should be invited to New York.
