Minnesota Football Coach Retires Immediately

I wonder why he waited so long? They play Michigan & Ohio St. next so I wonder if the team is extra motivated.

Minnesota football coach Jerry Kill retired Wednesday, effective immediately, citing advice of his doctor that if he continuted coaching he risked serious neurological problems.

Kill's battle with epilepsy has been very public since taking the Minnesota job in 2011, as he suffered seizures during two games that year. He also had seizures on the sidelines one time in 2012 and in 2013, the latter of which forced him to take a leave of absence and miss seven games.

Yeah, I'm surprised he coached this long, too. For Minnesota standards, though, he did a pretty good job.

This guy really has some major health issues. Don't know how he was able to carry on.

Kill, 54, overcame a battle with kidney cancer in 2005 while coaching at Northern Illinois.
Despite the health challenges, he did a very good job at Minnesota, leading the Gophers to bowl games each of the last three years. He is 29-29 overall at the school.
