Time-sharing deal works in the middle of Tide's defense

Quarterback isn't the only two-headed position on the Alabama football team.

Middle linebacker is another critical spot where two players are taking turns in practices and scrimmages.

But nothing's new. Nico Johnson and C.J. Mosley shared the position effectively last season.

This season, it looks as if they'll alternate again.

"Those two guys complement each other," Saban said, "and they have both done a fantastic job in their role for what they do."

Nico Johnson. "He plays the run well," Alabama coach Nick Saban said. "He's big and he's physical. We're trying to continue to develop a role for him in nickel, and that hasn't happened yet," Saban said of the 6-foot-3, 245-pound Johnson.



C J Mosley. "C.J. Mosley's a great athlete, and he's a really good role player," Alabama coach Nick Saban said. "He can run. He can cover. He plays really good in nickel. That's all he played for us last year. We played so much nickel, everybody thinks he plays all the time."

If you listen to how they compliment each other that is perfect. They are teammates! DH also is helping them along. This could be a defensive year beyond belief. RTR!

I love to watch CJ play. I have to think he was the most pleasant surprise on defense last year. Everyone was expecting Nico to be the standout (and he is an amazing player), but I think CJ really came out of nowhere and is a tremendous asset.
