This is awful. Kids should be kicked off team and not allowed to play again. The coach has a lot of explaining to do too.

This is outrageous conduct. I can't believe my eyes. This is a case n which I would press assault charges on the kid. Having pads and a helmet on does not suspend the criminal laws.

This appalling video comes from San Antonio, Texas, where you can see a couple safeties from John Jay high school targeting a referee after he made what they perceived to be bad calls. [Also, two of their teammates were ejected right before this play.]  The first safety drills the referee from behind, and after he goes down, another player lowers the boom with his helmet.

Ridiculous,  The whole team should forfeit the rest of the season, those two kids permanently barred from playing.  It is the football equivalent of shooting a cop, and should be met with the harshest punishment.

God please don't let that happen to my kids or grand kids, I would tear their rear ends up and they would play football again. Plus, they would eat their meals standing up for a week. Then I would make them go to that man every day for one week at least and apologize till they were sick of it! That is sorry coaching if he doesn't do something about that. I would like to see a follow up if we can. RTR!

These kids didn't just wake up on game day and decide it was OK to act like this.  Their behavior is the result of a lifetime of selfish choices.  To me that indicates they have not had the proper adult supervision up until this point, so I have very little hope that they will be held accountable in a manner that is appropriate.  It is quite possible that the "adults" involved with these kids are making excuses and trying to justify it by saying the ref got the call wrong.

And the school hires the coach.  And the parents, at the very least, tolerate that decision.  This reflects badly on the entire community IMO.

Regardless of what preceeded that I have a difficult time accepting the supposition that a coach had anything to do with that.  I personally feel that the Texas high school board should expelled those two permanently. The district attorney should investigate this fully and charge anyone and everyone involved as adults with the most severe crimes they can justify...

The players were ejected from the game. They are suspended from the team pending an investigation into the incident. The issue will be addressed Tuesday morning.

The disturbing comment in the written statement below is that the school spokesman says "it does not appear the athletes intentionally tackled the referee". What video replay is he watching?

NISD spokesman Pascual Gonzales issued this written statement on Sunday:

This incident is extremely disturbing, not the sportsman like behavior we teach students at Northside ISD. We are cooperating with the UIL investigation. We will handle this incident on Tuesday morning and schedule a due process hearing which will include formal interviews with coaching staffing , the students themselves and other athletes, anyone who has knowledge of whatever was seen.

The bottom line is, Northside will not tolerate this type of behavior. It does appear the athletes intentionally tackled the referee, but we have not confirmed it.
