1910: Auburn was 6-1 on the year. Harvard, Michigan, USC, Louisiana Tech, Vandy, & Washington were undefeated. However, Auburn did crush mighty Samford 78-0 in B'Ham.

1914: Auburn was 8-0-1. Army, Montana, Nebraska, Tennessee, Washington, & Washington & Lee  were undefeated/untied. Army widely considered the National Champ that year.

1958: Auburn 9-0-1. LSU was 11-0, was SEC Champion, selected National Champs by the AP & UPI polls & won their bowl game. Auburn did not play in a bowl. Auburn was #4 in those polls.

1983: Auburn 11-1. Miami was 11-1 but beat #1 Nebraska to win the NC in both major polls. Auburn was #3.

1993: Auburn was 11-0 but was on NCAA probation thanks to Pat Dye & did not play a bowl game. FSU #1 in both polls. Auburn #4 in AP & unranked in UPI (cheaters were not voted on).

2004: Auburn 13-0. USC won NC. Later, the BCS revoked their NC and no one was considered the NC for the year.

Yep, they definitely has a strong argument for more National Championships.

Thanks MD well informed. I did not have a clue to all this info. I did personally think that Auburn in 2004 should have been playing for the NC. To me, JMHO, they were the best team in the nation that year. RTR!

Remember, Oklahoma & USC both finished undefeated & #1 & #2 in the BCS poll & played for the NC. However, it was a good team & they probably got rooked, just like Bama in 1966.

Auburn might have gotten rooked that one year, 2004, but still can't claim a national title based on that season.

Bama has a much stronger claim to 1966, having won the title the previous two seasons, starting the season preseason No. 1, going the entire season undefeated and untied, yet losing to politics which vaulted N.D. and Michigan State to co-champions because they tied each other during the regular season and didn't play a bowl game.

Nice work MD.

Well I couldn't get the quote above to come down to this window but I remember the year Duffey Daughtery and that crook at ND played that game. Bubba Smith was big time player for MSU at that time and I think it was because everytime we played ND in a bowl game they beat us. The poll people used that to vote the way they did is my feeling. MPO and only mine. RTR!
