Our #4 Bama team is facing the #21 Arizona team.  After 1 rotation, we have a 0.425 lead, which is fairly sizable in gymnastics.

In the second rotation, we apparently had 2 girls fall on bars.  That really hurt our score, but we are still ahead by 0.175.

This came as a surprise in July.  Coach Patterson needs both knees replaced.  Dana Duckworth has been a longtime assistant, and she's a 1993 graduate of UA and former member of our gymnastics team.

We're going to win this meet unless we have an unmitigated disaster on the floor.  We had a fall on the beam, but still got a 49.050 score, compared to Arizona's 47.850 on the floor in the third rotation.  We have a very solid lead (146.925 - 145.550).

We won the meet 196.225 - 194.375.   

That's not a bad start to the season.  We had some mistakes, but hopefully we will continue to improve as a team and grow from this meet tonight.  I imagine there were a lot of first meet jitters for everyone.

Coach Patterson was in attendance tonight, by the way.

You're welcome.  I'm glad Coach Patterson was there, but I 'm guessing it was a little hard for her to just sit and watch.

We watched the ladies last night and thought they did pretty good, but not sure how they would match up against a Sarah Patterson squad. Just by looking at them perform, I thought the score should have been better for Bama, as far as the difference between the two squads, but I am no gymnastics expert to know what is good or bad. Wink

A score of 196 this early in the season is pretty good. Winning by nearly two points in this sport is a thorough whipping. Gymnastics meets are often won and lost by fractions of a point.

A good start to the season for Coach Duckworth and the team.
