The SEC vs. the world

If I am counting correctly, the SEC was:

2 - 1 vs the Big 12
2 - 2 vs the Big 10
2 -1 vs the ACC
1 - 0 vs the AAC
0 - 1 vs Independent  (ND)

All of the SEC East teams won their bowl games, and the bottom 2 in the SEC West won theirs.

What does this tell us?  Nothing, but now you have some more useless data to process.

The SEC went 7-5 but lost the upper tier bowl games. That tells me the SEC was down a little this year at the top of the conference. However, top to bottom we remain the best conference. Our lower level teams did very well. IMO this is nothing to worry about and the SEC remains the best football league in the NCAA.

The top SEC schools get the best schools from across the nation in bowl matchups.  Much tougher bowl schedules than other conferences.  Still, maybe the SEC was a bit down this year, and that explains the success of the Mississippi schools, as well as Bama's success in a year we weren't supposed to be that good.

The media built up the SEC as the almighty power of college football and I think it was rightfully so. The SEC went through a year of what Alabama goes through every year, every non-conference game is the other teams biggest game of the season for them and they take it very seriously. It will be interesting to see how the SEC does next season, I think there will be a lot more respect for the non-conference teams than what we have been seeing, especially this bowl season.
