Glad to know we weren't the only ones seeing this boatload of luck for Auburn. Read entire article, good stuff on Oklahoma, UAB, Notre Dame, etc.

But Auburn is the top-ranked team in the Misery Index this week because its fans now have to confront the reality that they spent an entire year refusing to accept.

Any time the word "luck" was brought into the equation while discussing what Gus Malzahn and company have done, Auburn fans have reacted defiantly. Breaks are breaks. That's football. Things happen. It's a clutch gene. This team that won't allow itself to lose. Yadda, yadda, yadda.

The way in which a team won or lost, expectations vis-ŕ-vis program trajectory and traditional inferiority complex of fan base all factor into this ranking.

They nailed it.  Laughing

Did you catch the stuff on Notre Dame, he nailed that, too.

Haven't made it that far yet.

For those of you that were wondering about Auburn's D yesterday, here is a good summary:

Quote
Let's talk about the Tigers' defense for a moment. It's not good. And it hasn't been good. Auburn survived it last season because it had some big-play guys up front such as Dee Ford and Nosa Eguae who made up for a multitude of sins, but this season's group just isn't as good rushing the passer. The tackling in the second- and third-level has been pitiful. Texas A&M racked up 453 yards, which followed Ole Miss getting 487, South Carolina going for 535 and Mississippi State collecting 469.

The worst part for Notre Dame fans is this team could very well finish 10-2 or 9-3 without a single great victory, which means an entire offseason of Notre Dame fans crying about a lack of respect and the rest of the college football world yelling back at them about being overrated. Good times.

Bingo! That's the part I was talking about. Typical Notre Dame fan "logic." If we play good but lose, we should still be highly regarded & ranked. For years, that's exactly what happened.

They need to put UAB football out-of-its-misery. Too much money being wasted. Spend it on basketball, baseball, golf, & softball.

Quote
Now former players are coming forward with concerns that the program is going to be shut down altogether, even as first-year coach Bill Clark has started to turn it around. Though it's unclear exactly why that's coming up right now other than the school being in the midst of a long-term overall strategic review, school President Ray Watts didn't exactly shoot down the possibility. His weak statement last week fueled the fire of UAB paranoia, and now this will hover over everything even if the Blazers have a historically successful season.

I was thinking LSU will be tough next year.  They're a young team that has gotten better this year as the season has progressed.

I agree. I was thinking, as I was watching the game. that LSU will certainly be a force to reckon with next year. Just looking at the vast improvement of this young team from the beginning of the season until now, speaks volumes. I'm glad we have them at BDS next year, although home field advantage means less between these 2 teams than most.
