Blake Sims bails out Alabama in so many ways against LSU

Sims got the ball with less than a minute left and guided Alabama to the game-tying field goal by hitting 4-of-6 passes for 44 yards. He started overtime with a 24-yard pass to Brandon Greene, a tight end lined up in the tackle spot, and finished with a six-yard pass to DeAndrew White.



At that point, you knew LSU wasn’t going to answer.

I am thrilled that Sims was able to perform when it counted.  I just wish the play calling and execution had been what it should have been so he wouldn't have had to do it in the last 50 seconds.

Not bad for a first-year starter who came into the season thrust into impossible expectations with the departure of McCarron and arrival of transfer Jacob Coker. Not bad for a guy who entered the game as one of eight quarterbacks with a passer rating of 160 or more, a list that includes guys such as Oregon’s Marcus Mariota and Ohio State’s J.T. Barrett, guys that should be in New York for the Heisman presentation.

Not bad for a guy who answered all those questions in 50 seconds and overtime.

Leave Blake Sims alone. Time to give the kid his due. Roll Tide.

I never understand why some folks want to put all the blame or give all the credit to one guy.  It is a team sport.  There are 11 guys on the field at a time, and there are well over 100 plays in a game.  That is over 1100 man-plays per game.  Even if the team grades out at 90%, that is 110 player miscues per game.  Some bigger than others, obviously, but there is always enough blame or credit to go around.

You win as a team and you lose as a team.  Winning and losing comes down to which team does a better job of limiting their mistakes and then overcoming the inevitable mistakes that they do make.  A perfect case in point:  LSU had the ball 1st and Goal on the 6 yard line after the Yeldon fumble.  However they get a penalty that pushes them back 15 yards and they end up settling for a FG.  We get both a 5 yard penalty AND a 15 yard penalty, both at the goal line, yet we somehow find a way to overcome those mistakes and score a TD.
