SEC playoff tracker: Oct. 29
The College Football Playoff committee has spoken, and there are four teams from the SEC West in the top six, including three in the top four. Who says the SEC isn’t getting two teams in the playoff? There’s still plenty of football to be played, though. For now, here’s a look at where each SEC playoff contenders stands heading into Week 10.

Mississippi State
 Record: 7-0 (4-0)
Rank: No. 1
Next big obstacle: Nov. 15 at Alabama

Reason for optimism: Entering Saturday’s game with Arkansas, Mississippi State ranks first nationally in both strength of record (which measures the difficulty in achieving its record based on its strength of schedule) and game control (which gauges its command of games from beginning to end) according to ESPN Stats & Information.

I'll believe it when I see it. I still think that after all the league championships have been decided, only one SEC team will be in. I think if FSU finishes undefeated, and the conference champs have no more than one loss, the 4 contenders will be FSU, the SEC champ, the Pac 12 champ and the Big 12 champ.

The last-week game between Ole Miss and MSU could be the reason.  If both remain undefeated until then, and if OM upsets MSU, both could get in.

You may be right, but like I said, I'll believe it when I see it.

Actually, I like the scenario better where Bama finishes undefeated the rest of the way, and if Ole Miss wins out, they both get in.

Then we play them again for the final game.  Now that would cause an epic meltdown.  SEC vs SEC again, with Alabama getting another shot at the team that beat them.  And we would stomp a mudhole in them the second time around too.

And that would leave the committee members and the rest of the country scratching their heads going "Wait a minute, wasn't that not supposed to happen again?"

 Huh?

 Huh?

Then they will announce they are going to a 16 team playoff.  Laughing

Of course, what they don't realize is that the more teams they add, the less likely a non-SEC team will win it all.  Their best shot was under the old system, especially in a year like this when the SEC champ will likely have at least 1 and maybe 2 losses.  SEC teams are well prepared to play several tough games in a row, while the other conferences only have to play 1 or 2 per year.
