So will we see B Sims move to RB? Or will they give it to Brent Calloway? Is there any other player that might make the transition? We have to have depth there, and depth means more than 3 players. RBs are the most prone to injury because they take so much punishment. Especially when we get up by 30+ against teh Kent States and Georgia States of the world, we want to be able to put TR and EL on the bench and still have 2-3 RBs available to carry the ball.

Jason Fowler is a good running back. He should move to # 3. The two you mentioned and two walk-ons is all we have to my knowledge.

I thought Fowler was going to be a pure FB in our offense? He is a tough player. I wonder if he could play in an H-back situation for running the ball? RTR!

Saban doesn't use a pure FB. Fowler would probably have seen time at Hback, but now he will be the 3rd RB. He is good, and I like his size, but he's not a home-run threat.

I agree with your comments crtuneman. J. Fowler is big and will be a good straight upfield runner. He won't be breaking a lot of long runs. If he picks up the blocking assignments we may see a lot of him this year. For those not familar with him I have posted a link for his profile from rolltide.com.

Fowler is a LeRon McClain kinda running back.  Nothing flashy, but big and powerful, very athletic.  He has excellent hands catching the ball out of the backfield or as a wideout.  (He even returned kickoffs in H.S., some for TDs.)  So not your typical FB.

Surgery was successful according to a statement released by Saban/UA.  No confirmation of the torn ACL by Saban, just referred to it as a knee injury.  Also, he said his status for this year would be determined later.  Possibly the injury wasn't quite as severe as first thought?

Ingram returned quickly after his knee surgery, but he was never quite at 100% for the season.  With a younger guy like Hart, further down the depth chart, the coaches might want to redshirt him unless absolutely necessary, especially if an ACL, until the bowl game.  But rehab on knees with these young athletes can be faster than would be expected from the ordinary public.

Hey Hannibal thanks so much for this post. It would be with great pleasure to find out it wasn't as bad. It is better to think bad and turnout good than to think good and have it worse. RTR!

Knees are tricky. When Ingram came back it took him some time before he was comfortable planting his foot and making sharp cuts. Hart is a speed guy. He does not have the size to overpower you. He will need his full speed and quickness to be effective IMO.

Exactly.  Hart is a speed guy who can get you the edge.  We won't be getting that from Fowler.  Still some depth though.

One of the coaches stated that if Fowler would learn to block with the tenacity that he has when he runs the football that he would see a lot more playing time.
