Nice little short topic about "Heart of a walkon".   Sometimes we forget how much they give up to be a part of the Bama/college teams.  They have to pay for their own tuition, book, and any other fees that may be associated with college.  It is such an honor for these guys to get a scholarship.  If you get a chance watch it.

I had intended to, but got tied up on a business call. I'll DVR the next show.

"It's Time" is an SEC Storied production that played last Thursday night on the SEC network.  It profiled Chucky Mullins and  Vanderbilt fullback Brad Gaines, they guy that Chucky hit when he became paralysed.  Very moving show. Highly recommend watching it if you get the chance.

I watched some of this and I turned it. It sure brought back some chilling scenes. I never want to see anybody hurt, but I remember those nights when you get up and go to the wrong huddle. RTR!

... and keep playing.  Right, Preacher?

... and practice for 4 hours without water.

Hopefully we'll keep learning how to protect players!   Wink

Yea Chechem. How we did it, I just do not know except the Lord looked over us. We saw some 100 deg. days and would sips because Coach Robinson would run our bennies off if we didn't keep going. Ranburne use to one of the best 1A schools there was. The only roadblock we had at that time was Marion County, and Hazelwood. Now that was football. RTR!

Our coaches took care of us in HSV.  We got Kool-Aid mixed with salt instead of sugar.

We got ice cold salt water when we switched from defense to offense.

By the way we had cups and not water bottles.   The water was put in ice chest and you dipped your cup in the water and got water, dirt and grass.

We absolutely got no water during practice.  During the 1960s it was believed by our coaches that 'it toughened players up'.
I visited our old school during our 40th reunion, and when I saw the water fountain in our locker room ..... I cried.  True.

It truly is amazing that more players didn't have heat strokes back then. My mind keeps flashing back to the "Junction Boys".

Yea but we boys back then were plowing mules in the fields or cutting hay and hauling it. We had swimming holes where you had to run to be saved from a mud fight. Climbing trees and rocking snakes was normal. Now days it would kill these kids if they had to get out in a garden on their hands and knees and plant stuff. I have come home from cutting pulp wood and loading and then went to practice. If you wanted any gas money for Friday night you better make some money. It our times and we stood the test. RTR!

we had less heat problems because we played outside during the summer.  we didn't sit on the coach playing video games.  we drank from the water hose when we got thirsty.

And no air conditioner.
