I just can't comprehend these types of things. Why do young people want to use drugs KNOWING it's harmful, not to mention illegal. How can a 21 year old be depressed when he has his whole future in front of him? Very sad. Makes me want to hug my 19 year old son even more.

^This....early and often. This guy had an unbelievable future if he chose the right path. God only knows why he chose the path he did.

   You would be amazed at the amount of prescription drug abuse I see working as a paramedic. Much more prevalent than "street drugs."

LOL! We do, as much as possible. Not to mention his grandparents, big sister, his nieces, his numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, even his great aunts and uncles, and 2nd cousins love this boy to death. That's what happens when you're the youngest grandchild, cousin, child, & nephew in both sides of the family. Plus, he's a good-looking kid with a charming, loving, good-natured sense of humor & personality (he gets most of these attributes from me).

xanax and methadone is a pretty common killer combo.  You just stop breathing.

methadone, though often known for its use as a withdrawal medication for opiad use, was designed as a pain reliever. Diazepam, marketed as Valium, typically helps relieve anxiety. Carisoprodol, known by the brand name Soma, is a muscle relaxant often prescribed to relieve pain and discomfort caused by strains, sprains and other muscle injuries.

Any chance whatsoever that these were prescriptions he legitimately was taking but just made the wrong mistake of mixing them at the wrong time or with another substance? Or I am just trying too hard to find some hope in this?

He was at a party, and has had previous known  issues.. I don't think anyone one doctor would prescribe these meds together, or prescribe some if they knew he was taking others. Remember Methadone is dangerous enough that early treatments are performed at a clinic, and levels are strictly monitored. I wish I could find some hope in this, but...

Thanks rueben. I figured I was grasping at straws, but my Rx IQ is not real high so I was not sure of the possibility of those being prescribed together.

It's painful to read articles about the young ones dying unnecessarily at such an early age. For these young men to achieve those lofty goals of theirs, they put themselves under tremendous pressure trying to be bigger, stronger, faster, and better than the other atheletes. When I see these young men all muscled up and strong as a bull, all I can think of is some type of enhancers made this him look this way and be that strong.

MD you are so right. Loving them all you can and they still find a way to falter sometimes. I just pray God will be with our kids and grand-kids. RTR!
