Haylie McCleney calls it instinct.

When she stood in center field a week ago, watched a ball flare off the bat of LSU’s Tammy Wray into shallow right field, ran and dived for it — landing so hard and with such speed that she broke her belt buckle while making the catch — it was instinct.

McCleney's stats at the plate are fantastic. Her play in the field may be even better. Home grown girl too from just outside B'ham (Mortimer Jordan High School).

Those instincts make McCleney one of the best outfielders in the country. Consider her .500 batting average, eight home runs, 30 runs batted in and 23 stolen bases, and she may be the best player in college softball.
