AJ McCarron of Alabama seems to be the safest candidate. After all, he’s the quarterback for the No. 1 team and a well-known and proven commodity. But to win he’ll have to overcome his relatively lackluster production and the perception that he’s not really the engine that drives Alabama’s success. Big games in his remaining matchups against Auburn and in the SEC title game could help him change that perception just enough to tilt the race in his direction. I have a feeling that, while he’s likely to appear on a lot of ballots, he’ll need to finish strong in his home region (the South) to have a shot at winning. That means putting distance between himself and Winston and Manziel — a tall order indeed.

I'm biased of course, but I don't understand how anyone could vote for Manziel or Winston over AJ at this point, assuming Bama wins the final two games and AJ performs well.  Maznziel already has one and hasn't exactly shown himself to deserve another on or off the field.  Winston is just a freshman and the cloud currently hanging over his head I'd have to hold off on awarding him a vote this year.  That leaves McCarron, only one of the winningest, most productive QBs in NCAA history.  How could you vote for anyone else?

I think the table has been set for McCarron now to win the Heisman, he just needs to do what he does best and bring home another peice of crystal. Wink

His name is always mentioned as an afterthought until now. Looks like with Oregon losing their 2nd game, and badly, that Mariota is out. Then you have Baylor's Bryce Petty who got curb-stomped last night, and finally, Johnny Manziel, who was taken to the woodshed yesterday in  losing his 3rd game.

If Bama wins their next 2, there's a good chance that AJ could win the Heisman by attrition.

I think that the way Manziel and winston have conducted themselves they have put a black mark by their names and the voting will return to someone as a role model for the young kids and the voters will want to return some Honor and Prestige to the Heisman! I will be highly disappointed if it isn't AJ!

I noticed a change of heart from a lot of the analysts this morning on different talk shows and I think McCarron has made up a lot of ground. Right now it seems to be betweem McCarron and Winston with Winston walking on thin ice. The sports analysts seem to have the same opinion as all of us on the forum do concerning the TPD and how the Winston case has been handle. They also sense there's a very good chance of his guilt.

It would be great to see AJ get the Heisman, but I would sure settle for the team to win another NC. I bet AJ would say the same thing.  Cheesy

I sure hope so but as it goes there has only been one or two players with
more Heisman Trophy votes than CN got in 2010 ... we will see

AJ has to have a big game against the Barn and Bama has to win. If both happen I think he wins.

I think that if AJ wins both games decisively, he does have a real shot at the award. Winston is tainted until his he issue is resolved. Look for Braxton Miller to start getting some Heisman love too. This may come down to Miller and AJ.
