We hear CNS say many times each week about the players and all of the distractions that affect the team. Maybe it's just me but this year there seems to be many more team/player distractions than in the past 2-3 years.

Each day there seems to be another story/rumor that in some way reflects back to possible problems awaitng the team. Player issues off the field was the first major distraction and then many injuries have happened. This week a story about CNS leaving Bama that happened in January of this year appears and today a story about McCarron's personal life.

These are just a few off the top of my head but I have to wonder if there isn't a lot of media intent to get into the heads of the Bama players to affect their quality of play. It's not a secret that most of America in the college football world wants Bama to lose and I think there is a great effort being put forward to make sure there is a daily/weekly distraction for the Bama team to think about.

This team is looking for an identity and this year theirs may come from off the field rather than on the field. Can they keep that keen sense of concentration that is necessary to win another championship or will the daily rumormill take it's toll on the players as the season progresses.

Personally, I think the players are so busy, they do not see half this stuff and don't care about the other half. I think we fans get too worked up about most of the stuff out in the media. All the anger at Dan Patrick and for what, a guy making his own opinions which is what he is paid for is just one example of fan over reaction to nothing. I think it was Chechem, 2Stater, SUPERCOACH, or someone on this board who has summed up all this stuff the best. The Tide is the envy of college football and we have won 3 National Championships in the last 4 years, so enjoy the ride and DON'T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF! Would you prefer we had Shula as Head Coach and we were a laughing stock in football?

I don't think the media is trying to mess us up, at least not most of them.  I just think they are trying to hook their caboose to the Bama train.  Bama is the envy of college football right now.  These press guys are just trying to come up with anything Bama related because they know it will get the page hits to their web sites.  They are so desperate to feed the public's interest for all things Bama that they have resorted to writing articles about random things that AJ's girlfriend tweets.

DP was making his case for CNS going to Texas
why he should , why he was and such .
he was quoting from the CNS radio show last night
things CNS said last night were brought up ...

then he says , something to the effect of ...
(he was giving reason why Saban was going to take the Texas job)

"look folks , Saban never said he is to old to make a change or gave reasons why
he was staying at Alabama so don't think he isn't considering Texas "

not word for word but you get the just of it ...
if you listen to the pod cast you know CNS did say he was to old to change
and if DP was quoting from it so does he ...

Bingo! I think this is close to what is going on. When was the last time we heard anything about, say, Kent State, Iowa, Minnesota, Virginia, Utah, or other "invisible" major football programs? Nick Saban is the best coach in college football so he naturally going to attract a lot of attention. I look at it this way, most of the media reports are very positive, but some folks have a different perspective on things. That's what makes America great.

The maturity of a team determines how distracted they are, in my opinion.  Do they listen/hear the talk?  They come in contact with too many people and have media devices they use everyday.

You are dead on hscoach. Maturity is something this team is looking for and they have a ways to go to get it. For all of you that think that Dan Patrick and the others are just making conversation, you might better take off those crimson colored glasses that you are wearing, there are no favors being done by any of this type of media.

These players read, hear, and see the same things that we do each day media wise and they aren't going to talk about it publicly but don't think they don't talk between themselves. I wonder what the recruiting class is thinking about all of this?

I've been wrong many times but I don't think so this time. Wink

Let's see how that maturity progresses through the season. Talent alone will not win Bama another NC. I think what these players don't quite realize yet, is that being mature means being able to take instruction and direction by those who know what they're talking about.

CNS said that the DB's in the aTm game were so preoccupied with what JF was doing, they weren't covering receivers like they were instructed to. That is a lack of maturity. They have to trust in CNS and KS. They have to "buy in" to the process that CNS has preached about since he got to Tuscaloosa.

I will really be interested in seeing how they progress tomorrow night and next week vs Ole Miss. They need to have that identity that everyone, including CNS, says that they lack, by then.

I know they are only 2 games into the season and there is time to improve, but previous Bama teams established an identity during the first game of the season. They knew what they had. This team is still a bit of a mystery.

2 things to keep in mind, though; we beat aTm at their place, we are 2-0, and you know that CNS got the D's attention this week.

I think that very soon, the football world will know who Bama is. They will know their identity and will find it is very similar to the identity of the teams of the last 2 years.

you are right Jamos , lots of people are listening  to this garbage
players , recruits , parents and the list goes on

night before last I was in New Orleans and caught the Les Miles show
on local radio over there then Amy VanDyken comes on with her
Fox Radio show , which is nationwide BTW .

Amy goes on this one hour plus triad about Alabama
she was running it in the ground because Alabama had a off week
before the A&M game and how unfair it was
it was unfair we had a week off before LSU or any other big game
basically insinuating we were cheating because of it ...

then finally a Alabama guy calls in and informs Amy to look up
the past few years and see who had off weeks before they
played Alabama in recent years ...

even after she saw that all these teams like LSU and Auburn had
off weeks before the BAMA game she still insisted it was unfair
and we were cheaters ...

I've said it before , these reporters  need to have accountability
when they spew this trash on the air waves or whatever , they
need to be called on it .

it's great we are the talk of the football world , I love it .
but when they resort to making up lies that everyone and their
brother can hear ? the truth needs to be spoken and they need
to be put in their place ...

I'm really glad we are back on top and it is eating these people alive
but them stooping to that low of a level  is uncalled for ...
last night CNS said that Cecil Hurt is the only sports reporter he will read
or listen to , maybe I need to do the same and the players need to as well .
but that ain't happening is it ?

if when we win another Championship this year this will work itself out ...
because most of them will croak from a bad case of green envy

The mental side of a football player is the key to his decision making and performance in a game and it's the easiest way for someone or something to affect their performance(s). This is the biggest obstacle for the coaches in their preparation of their team each week, getting them mentally ready.
