More Bad News for Auburn

So much for the "Loveliest Village on the Plain." It's nothing but a phony, elitist, bunch of hypocrites, epitomized by its football program & their holier-than-thou attitude.

Auburn, Alabama is home to sprawling plains, Auburn University, and a troubling police force. After the arrival of a new police chief in 2010, the department entered an era of ticket quotas and worse.

“When I first heard about the quotas I was appalled,” says former Auburn police officer Justin Hanners, who claims he and other cops were given directives to hassle, ticket, or arrest specific numbers of residents per shift. “I got into law enforcement to serve and protect, not be a bully.”

I wonder if this ticket/arrest quota business that is apparently pretty common had anything to do with the UF player who got arrested for barking at the police dog.  Apparently he just said "woof woof" as he walked by the dog, and the handler went all Barney Fife on him.

I just saw where they've dropped the charges on the kid. Apparently they realized that the entire world was laughing at them.

Even the sheriff said it was a dumb move by her deputy. The police are getting way too touchy and authoritarian and I speak as someone who knows what he is talking about.

Yep.  I think it is worse in college towns, where they are constantly dealing with drunk, rowdy students, and after a while they start to crack.  But quotas are not uncommon either, usually unwritten, your chances of getting a ticket goes up towards the end of the month.  (They sure built and paid for some nice municipal facilities in Tuscaloosa.)
