I'm not sure about this one. Fans love offense so they may not like this one.

AL.com reported Monday that Bielema, a member of the NCAA's Playing Rules Oversight Panel, proposed a rules change that would create "a 15-second substitution period" after each first down to allow defenses to substitute. At the recent SEC spring meetings, Bielema framed it as a player-safety issue -- just as Saban did when asking for similar rules changes last October.]

I am not sure about this one. Reasoning to me is: if it was working for us we want to keep it, if not we would want to get rid of it. I think we may at some time go to the up speed offense. JMHO. RTR!

Football is all about player safety anymore and this rule change would seem to have some legs. LSU really never has a problem with the hurryup offense of the other teams, they just fake a few injuries and all is well. Wink

I don't know. I am not a fan of the no huddle either, but I am not completely sure that more rules is what is needed (kind of the like the federal government, but I digress .... sorry this is The Quad, not the President's Mansion). I think Freeze has a point about the offensive players are in there the same number of plays in the no huddle as the defensive players. This is an especially tough thing for our beloved Tide, because CNS loves to substitute on D so much.

Don't need new rules.  Just need some new defensive wrinkles and maybe a little different mix of D personnel.

How will this hurt your team if you are behind running the 2minute drill?

You could make an exception, say for the last 5 minutes of each quarter. I agree with another poster, defenses will eventually adjust. When the wishbone first came out, it was  unstoppable, but Ara Parsegian at Notre Dame figured out how to stop it.

Yeah, I'm curious too, as it would benefit Bama.  But Saban has been working out the kinks on defending these offenses, ever since the Utah game.   LSU easily stopped Oregon's offense. Bielema probably hasn't faced these types of offenses all that much in the Big10.  Maybe he's worried.

Well, maybe hscoach is right.  Don't mess with the rules.  Sometimes a team will take a quick snap on a short yardage situation just to catch the other team off guard. Even if they aren't running the spread.  So I changed my mind.  Let teams run their offense.

Football is a game strategy.  Coaches must figure out how to stop teams and how to score.  To me changing the rules means you don't think you can stop the other team.  Bama has played other no huddle teams and had success.   A&M just happen top get Bama this year. My question is if Bama had pulled the game out would this still be an issue?

Probably not hscoach. I still think CNS can come up with a defense that will shut TA&M down completely. Take Johnny Football out of the
cast of players. RTR!

It seems like football does not mind changing the rules if it helps the offense. Remember the bump & run and how you could constantly bump the receiver until the ball was in the air?
