QB David Cornwell commits to Alabama

It took some time, but David Cornwell (Norman, Okla./Norman North) -- the ESPN 150's No. 1 pocket-passing quarterback -- finally ended up where he wanted to go all along.

Cornwell committed to Alabama on Friday, just minutes after fellow Crimson Tide quarterback target Jacob Park (Goose Creek, S.C./Stratford) gave a verbal pledge to Georgia.

"I had a lot of contemplation and the meeting with coach Saban went 10 times better than I thought it would," Cornwell said. "We were in his office and talked about everything. I told him, 'I'm ready to wrap this up if you are.'

Awesome.  Sounds like a great fit.

Alabama coach Nick Saban wanted to see Cornwell and evaluate him in person before taking his commitment. The No. 24 overall prospect waited patiently as Alabama went through its process of finding a quarterback.

"I know they have their system, and I'm not going to be that recruit that interrupts that," Cornwell said after the camp. "Whatever coach Saban says, goes."

I think this is great news.  Not only is he a great pocket passing prospect, but he's a mobile QB who can extend plays and turn broken plays into someting positive or at worst no loss.  But he is a prospect and a lot has to be proven yet.

Cornwell becomes the Tide's 11th commitment for 2014 and their first quarterback. He is also the highest-rated signal-caller to choose Alabama since Saban took over as coach.
