If CAG leaves it will be for a better job than Minnesota IMO.

I was not aware anyone on CRS wanted CAG to be replaced. Some folks were unhappy early in the year with the bad losses. Late in the year everyone was disappointed we did not make the NCAA. That is to be expected but most people feel CAG has our program headed in the right direction. Three 20 win seasons and very respectable finishes in the SEC standings.

I think CAG is doing all he can with the recruits he can get. Alabama is not a big draw for BB players like Football is though. When CAG gets some of these guys to believe in Alabama Basketball then we will be in the big dance big time. RTR!

I have not seen anyone say Grant should be fired or wished he would leave. Perhaps Jamos can direct us to the post where this was stated or even suggested. Maybe he's referring to another website. Plus, there's no way Miami guy Grant, who has coached in Florida, Alabama, & Virginia is going to Minnesota. Maybe Nick Saban will go there, too.

I certainly hope that Grant stays, especially if he can lure a quality offensive assistant from somewhere.

Not many ringing endorsements for CAG in the thread linked below but then again what a post writer thinks he wrote isn't always what a post reader thinks he read.

Reads to me like most everyone was saying CAG would be on the CRS hotseat next year unless there was a lot of improvement made.

With several ugly losses, some players not developing as expected, and the extremely poor offensive play, I think he should be on the hot seat if major improvement is not seen. He will be in his 5th year, what's the excuse going to be? Are you happy and satisfied with the team's play this year? Again, nobody suggested they would be glad to see him leave this year or be fired, which was the inference of the original poster on this thread. Grant's being paid $1.8 mil a year, are we being unreasonable to expect more from the coach and team?

 Huh?

I said in the linked thread I did not think CAG was on the hot seat. I also said we would win 20 games and finish in the SEC top 4. We did both of those things.

CAG has done some good things. I think he has put a good foundation in place to build a program on that will consistantly make the NCAA in the future. I am glad CAG is our coach.

Going forward we need to see better results. I think CAG also knows and expects that.

How long was Gottfried the coach at Bama?  I haven't checked the two coaches records but it seems like CAG has done as good or better than did Gottfried.  I think he will do very well if the school and fans will give him the chance.  Time will tell...

Being a consistent bubble team is not what I have in mind for our program. Most everyone has been of one mind-- to let 2013-14 play out and see what progress is made. But like I said earlier-- these incoming freshmen better be special or we are probably in for more of the same.

When we got CAG our program was below the standards of the program today. We are not going to be satisfied with maybe a NCAA invite and a one and out each year. It may be we will need someone else to bring the team the rest of the way. But due to the hard work and strides that have come out of CAG efforts, the Alabama job will become/has become more attractive to upper tier coaches. We are now in a position to offer a Tom Izzo type coach without him laughing in our face.

Let us see what happens next season, but be prepared to make the hard choice unless the next plateau is reached.

Below is from Wiki, on Gottfried.  Gottfried did very well early on in his coaching career at Bama, but then his teams had a slide :

Quote
Gottfried was hired by the University of Alabama on March 25, 1998. He led the Tide to the SEC regular season championship in the 2001–02 season. The following year, his team became the first in Crimson Tide history to be ranked No. 1 in the AP poll. The team held the ranking for two weeks before losing 51–49 to Utah shortly before conference play. During the end of the following season, his team upset top-ranked and top-seeded Stanford in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The squad then defeated reigning national champion Syracuse to advance to the Elite Eight, achieving another program first. The Tide ultimately lost to eventual national champion UConn. For his efforts he was named SEC coach of the year by the AP and his fellow coaches. The next season, Alabama entered the NCAA tournament as a fifth seed before suffering a first-round loss to UW–Milwaukee.
After that, his tenure at Alabama was marked by key player injuries and disappointment. Alabama posted back-to-back losing seasons in the SEC in 2006–07 and 2007–08. The 2007–08 season marked the first time in nine years (only the second time under Gottfried) that Alabama did not reach either the NIT or NCAA post-season tournament,
