This is a bone I have had to pick for years. These PUBLIC universities should not be allowed to spend the taxpayers money on these bowl trips. Auburn took 938 people at taxpayer expense-paid vacation. And don't give that crap that the money is not taxpayer money. Auburn and Alabama are paid for with our taxes and ANYTHNG they earn in sports or other endeavors belongs to the public. The university president uses this as a way to reward his cronies and pals at the university. This should be stopped, imediately, especially in these tight economic times.

I've posted my feelings about this before, and I agree with MD.  This is crap.  The money spent should come from the pockets of those who spent it, and heads should roll.  If I overspent my budget at work, I'd be in megatrouble or get fired.  Punishment is due.

Okay, taxpayers relax.  Read the whole article, they didn't lose money on the bottom line, they just spent more than the SEC budgeted for their expenses.

from the article

Quote
Additional bowl revenue the schools receive through their conferences is not included in the NCAA reports. Counting the BCS payout and other SEC bowl money, Auburn will more than come out ahead.

The point is, they didn't have to spend all that money, they could have saved a ton by not over-indulging. Th money still belongs to the taxpayers, period.

My husband and all his Mississippi State buddies went to the gator bowl and when they came home they rolled up in my driveway in their Gator Bowl shirts acting like they had just won a natty.  I said "y'all...act like y'all have been somewhere before...it's just the gator bowl."  Same goes for Auburn.  They aren't use to getting out of Lee County much less winning a championship.  Act like you've been there before and will be there again!
