Hey everyone.  It is cool here today but feels pretty good for working outside.  I am trying to burn a tree stump out in my yard.  I cut the tree down some time ago and am tired of waiting on it to rot out so I'm taking matters into my own hand.  The two youngest boys were helping me.  Eating lunch now but the youngest and I will be back at the fire soon...

Curious; did you use potassium nitrate?   

No.  I just used a couple of short pieces of roofing metal and wrapped them around the stump and screwed them together.  I then put some kindling wood in the bottom (on top of the stump) with some paper on the very bottom.  Piled some larger fire wood on top of that and lit it.  Fed that fire all day long and now I have a pile of burning coals about 18-24" deep on top of the stump.  I'll put more wood on it tomorrow morning before I leave to go over to Dad's house so it can keep burning...  How does one use potassium nitrate for this purpose?

Looks like the weatherman missed it pretty good. We were under a freeze warning and it's currently 39 degrees. Suits me. Maybe our high will be more than the predicted 52. I'll be indoors watching foosball all day, anyway, so let it be cold.

It burns very hot, and from the inside of the stump (once drilled).  See the video.  No need for a fuse; can just burn with a wood pile as you did.  The KNO3 alone won't completely eliminate the stump, but it makes the process much faster.

Big day for football.  We get to watch Georgia and the Boogs (2:30PM), then Alabama (6PM).  Our young players get a chance to show off today, filling in for the injured guys.  Should be interesting.

Congrats to the bb team for whipping Memphis last night.  E-cred to 2 for covering the action and summarizing the play.  LF and I were out at the movies: "Murder on the Orient Express".  Entertaining movie, even if not great.  Advice: don't let anyone ruin the mystery before you see it!

Chilly again (35 now), but warming and sunny later.  I'll get outside and do some yard work before football starts.  NALT will be burning stumps  .  BTW, NALT, you can buy that KNO3 at Home Depot or Lowe's.
