Photo I took on June 9th.  You've probably read that Yellowstone has partially reopened.  But the road from my cabin to the park, which includes the Lamar Valley, remains closed.  Hopefully the road will be repaired by August so I can return.  No reason to go if the Lamar stays closed; the best wildlife is there.  Friends who live in Silver Gate, where I stay, reported yesterday that not much work has been done on the roads into Lamar; frustrating for them - no tourists and thus no business.  Said they 'remain hopeful'.  The washout includes an area about 1/8-mile long.  We wait!

You took some great pics and videos, Chech. Very sorry to hear about the road closure. Any word on why the progress is so slow?

I'm only hearing it from news reports, but the reasons include 1) assessments of the damage, 2) making repairs that will last in case of another similar flood, 3) government red tape, 4) priorities = the damage in the northern part of the park is where the population is greater (Gardiner, MT), and 5) moving large equipment to the area requires major effort; damage is extensive.

2, you'd be surprised how many British celebrate our day. We even went to a special meal for that occasion. I think they admire the U.S. and see why we didn't want to be ruled by a king. So I feel safe when I fly the American flag.

Since it's Independence Day, here are some pics of people being "independent" at Yellowstone.  I saw a lot more than I photographed.


Yellowstone Rangers fine people for being too close to wildlife ($800 minimum).  This guy sitting is clearly too close, besides being so stupid as to sit where he can be charged (and can't escape).  Yes, moose charge people fairly often (Google it).


This scene baffled me.  A small black bear was near the road.  This car stopped right in the road blocking traffic.  It's done commonly, and recently I saw that a guy was fined for intentionally bumping a car from behind that was doing this.  ALSO, it was raining hard, so I know the inside of the car was getting wet.  And please explain to me how the 3 of them are all standing.  Does this car have 2 sun roofs??  I've never seen that.  Or did they cut away the roof?

RIP Tutwiler Hall. It was demolished at 7:00 AM this morning. Built in 1968 I had a lot of friends that were housed in that dorm. I even picked up a few girls for dates there. It was nice when built but times have changed. It served its purpose for many years.

Great  pics. I saw some pics of Tutwiler being demolished and I thought it was the jail in South Alabama. Wow, lol. RTR!

Me too.
And I used to eat there.  My dorm (Abercrombie) didn't have a cafeteria (or air conditioning), so I'd buy meal tickets at Tutwiler and also study there.  Their food was MUCH BETTER than at the guy's dorms, plus it was a target-rich environment.  Not to mention they often didn't bother punching your meal ticket, so you got free meals.  I'd have starved without Tutwiler.  Miss it already!
