Happy Thursday. I hope everybody is emerging from the deep freeze. It never got as cold here as it did in the rest of the south. We are under a winter storm advisory for freezing rain. I think we may escape it. It's 35 degrees here and the freezing line looks to be about 20 miles north of here. Fingers crossed.

Good morning.  According to the radar the snow has stopped.  We had very light snow all day Wednesday, with only 1-2" of accumulation.  Then about 4pm it started snowing for real.  We got 3-4" more by midnight.  It's pretty to gaze at, and deep enough that it appears our house is sinking into the yard.  The entranceways are half their usual height.  No mail delivery or pickup for this week so far.  We've had 7 days below freezing (the high was below 32), and got as cold as 4 degrees.  At least the bird watching has been good, we have power, and the Direct TV dish is working (despite being covered with snow).  We have a cord of wood and a good firepacle.  And Saturday the temperatures should reach 50!!  Woot.

Your Inuit friend, Chech.

I haven't tried driving on the snow, but my neighbor has.  He took this pic yesterday.

We got 31/2 inches of snow last night in Decatur, AL. It was pretty last night but it is a mess today. Roads are in bad shape. 34 degrees now so there is some melting but it is going down to 19 tonight so ice will be a big problem. I am enjoying working from home this week.

Athens and Huntsville got hit with more snow than Decatur. Something about the Tennessee River separates the weather to some degree.

Is that an Edsel at the top of the hill?

Sounds like all of you got hit pretty hard by the cold and snow. Good news; it's fixing to warm up!.

We got nothing but rain yesterday and last night at my house.  Driving to work this morning the roads were just wet. Then when I got about 5 miles east of Huntsville I crossed a hill and was in 2" slush.  There was enough traffic that the road was safe to drive on.  I made it to the gym and then to work with no problems.  Even though Redstone was officially closed I came on in and got to work a bit earlier than usual.
