A new list of the 10 U.S. cities most at risk of natural disasters includes Birmingham, Anniston and Tuscaloosa.    Shocked

Total garbage.

A man who doesn't waste words coming to the point.  And exactly right.  Where's the evidence?  Most natural disasters happen in twister territory: Oklahoma, Kansas, etc

I think it's just a matter of a pencil geek closing the barn after the horses/cows escape.  This means nothing of the danger of living there now; just historically.
He looked up the cities with the most tornadoes/hurricanes/etc over the past 20 years, and wrote an article.
WHAT ABOUT CORRECTION FOR SIZE OF THE CITY AREA??
Nitwit.  By this, little Abbeville, Mississippi should be #1.  It has ~700 people, and is less than a mile square, but had 3 tornado hits and multiple deaths in the past 10 years.

All of those small towns in North Mississippi and North Alabama have taken a beating, just terrible what they have gone through. Seems like there was a small town in NE Miss  right on the state line that was blown away by one of those tornadoes just a few years ago.

And you're sure safer in Anniston than the Gulf Coast cities in the path of future hurricanes.

I wasn't going to say anything for fear of jinxing. Been 11 years since Ivan hit here, but the devastation is as bad as anything I've seen.

Good (dry) morning.  Coffee  Coffee

Still no rain.  The forecast called for rain overnight: nothing.  And it is supposed to rain most of today, but none is here yet.  It's dry, the dogwoods have lost their leaves, and the woods are crispy.  Not good.  Maybe something will develop yet.  Good chance all day today, but the clouds seem to be holding their moisture until they pass us by.

Lots of football news.  Much of it is chatter and panic from nervous fans.  It would end for a time if Bama beats Georgia this weekend.

Light rain has been falling here all night. What's strange is that it isn't showing up on the radar.

You are correct about the negative chatter. Sounds like a lot of people on other forums are giving up the ship. I think it will be a tough game, but I see our chances of winning as good as anybody's. Bo gonna run amok.

Yes, yes.  Sure, Corinth is just 5 miles from Shiloh.  Any good Southern boy knows those towns, and most anyone could smell a paper mill!

Hammermill Paper in Tuscaloosa.  My brother worked there for a time in college.  It was west of campus, and boy you could smell it most days.

And of course I know Corinth.  Half-way between Huntsville and Memphis, fairly decent sized town.  It made a good stop for food and gas, especially before they used all that casino money to improve the highways in north Mississippi, the whole place is different now.

For about three months, I took over a friend's contract with the FDA, inspecting stores for compliance with the food stamp program throughout mostly rural Mississippi.  Corinth is huge compared to most of the places I would go...  south of the Crossroads in Clarksdale you get Alligator, Mound Bayou, Longshot, Hushpuckena...
