Not surprised this is "effective immediately" after last nights blowout loss to Vandy.

How in the heck does a coach from Louisiana Tech get such a contract? This is insanity. Vol fans should be more upset about that than anything.

Quote
Dooley, 44, had a 15-21 record that included an 0-15 mark against Top 25 teams. Dooley was 4-19 in Southeastern Conference competition during his three-year tenure and had lost 14 of his last 15 league games.

Quote
Dooley had four years left on his contract, which includes a $5 million buyout.

No surprise here. He was not getting the job done. You can not get beat much less blown out by Vandy if you are the Tenn coach. Dooley is a good man but he was in way over his head. The previous Tenn AD made a bunch of bad choices. Hiring Kiffin and Dooley were failures for sure. Bama Grad and Tenn AD Dave Hart has a big hire to make. Tenn is a good program and can be brought back in a year or two with the right hire. The SEC is better when Tenn is competitive on a national level. It is a lot more fun to beat them when it breaks their heart.

I just don't see a "big" hire being made. Fans always assume they can get any coach they want just by waving a fist  full of money around. In reality, that almost never happens. Saban was a fluke hire for Bama, a solid NC winning coach who was available and had lived in the South before and enjoyed it. I know names like Jon Gruden are being thrown around, but he makes $5 mil on Monday Night Football, and I can not see him as a college football coach. I don't see UT going for Petrino with all his baggage, mainly due the fiasco created by Kiffin. A lot of interesting things will being happening in the next few weeks.

Does Chiznik get fired and who replaces him?
Does Chip Kelley leave Oregon for the NFL?
Does Mack Brown keep hanging on at Texas?
Does Urban Meyer have health issues and leave Ohio State?
Does Pat Dye continue to run Auburn University?

JAMOS wants to make him AD. Yo tambien. Mr. Haney from Green Acres would be a good hire because he owns a suit.

Does Chip Kelley leave Oregon for the NFL?
Best to take off while the 'gettin'" is good. His 1 week at #1 is as good as it'll get.

Does Mack Brown keep hanging on at Texas?
Hopefully UT will fire Brown and hire Franchione. Then we can concentrate all (most) of our hate on a non-SEC team.

Does Urban Meyer have health issues and leave Ohio State?
He thinks Brutus Buckeye has been following him. He just needs some rest-- which is a problem the NCAA has helped him with.

Does Pat Dye continue to run Auburn University?
Can you fire someone from a job they were never hired for?

Dave Hart has a big hire to make. A big name may not be available but hiring the head football coach at Tenn is important. Hart should be looking at all options including big names. He may have to go get a mid-major coach or hire an assistant but Tenn needs to get this hire right. The last two coaches have put the program in reverse.

Dang, I didn't realize how bad Dooley's conference record was. 4-19 in three years? Even at UcheaT that is unacceptable. And how would you like to be the 10rc team that finishes 0-fer in conference play for the first time ever?

The problem is the fans are expecting a big name and if they hire, say, Willie Taggert (WKU) they will go ape poop. You are absolutely right, this is more that a big hire, it is an earth-shaking hire for UT, with all the problems from late in Fulmer's term, Kiffin, & now Dooley. UT is about to become irrelevant in football.

I think Coach Dooley tried to instill class at UofT and that won't work. People with class just won't go there now a days. Look at all the people left because of his act like you got class attitude. RTR!

UT could do a lot worse than Taggert, at least for an X's and O's coach. If he can recruit, he would be a gold mine. I was very impressed at how well prepared he had WKU against Bama.
