Someone found a similar article last year, and I remember Smitty discovering that it was based on some erroneous observations of activity in some forums [sic].

Seems he asked, "Have you ever answered a question on the web, 'What team do you log in to read about?'; instead the rankings were determined by some educated guess of following or number of hits about a team.

This article doesn't say how the numbers were generated.  If so, I'll be happy to read it.

I think you have a point. In going back over it, they have Texas Tech ranked 24th. Then below that, under honorable mention, they have TT listed there again.

Maybe he totaled the number of hits.  Maybe that's why Aubs are ranked (we discuss them so much!).  But I don't know how he counts Alabama-the-state vs Alabama-the-team.  Ohio State as well.

Maybe he's not the best at this; maybe he is.  But if he wants to be the best, he needs to reveal his methods!   Wink

This guy lists the most knowledgeable fans as Rutgers. I used to almost always get my ESPN 12:00 game from the Big 10 or Big East. I have watched Rutgers many times. Their games are a football game/concert with music playing and dancing in the aisles. It seems as popular as football. They also are bad about cheering and pep band blaring while their offense is on the field.

Rutgers at #4?!!! That right there tells me this "poll" is worthless. Not to mention South Carolina at #5 & Iowa at #12.

I posted above as to Rutgers knowledge on football but it comes from the general attitude on college football. The Northeast couldn't care less unless they focus on a single "big" game each season with a rivalry.

Well I am surprised. I would have put up the farm that Alabama had the biggest following. I certainly don't want to read all our boards but I know we have a lot. RTR!

It is pure stupidity to list WVU ahead of Texas, for example. They have more members on Shaggy than WV has people.

True that.  It's a big state, and the school has a huge enrollment.
