After watching that absolutely stupendous beatdown Saturday  night, I got to wondering about something: Do we have isues with depth? About the 3rd quarter I started realizing something: We had only played a handful of players on defense. In the secondary, Dee and Deion played corner all night. We finally saw Geno SMith and John Fulton in thhe 4th when the game was over. And at safety, the same 4 guys played all night: Lester, Vinnie, HaHa, and Nick Perry. Didn't see Landon Collins at all. At LB we saw Trey, Nico, CJ, Adrian, and Dickson. I don't think I saw Tana Patrick all night. Some subs came in in the 4th. The DL substitued liberally, esp when JW went out. We seem to have good depth on the DL, but at LB and in the secondary, the same guys played most of the night. DOes Saban not trust the young guys? Did he just feel that they weren't ready for this opener? I wondered if the reason Mich was able to make some plys in the 2nd half was because our D was so tired. What do you guys think?
On a related note, I am disappointed in John Fulton. I remember when he was recruited, he was a huge get. He was a 5-star out of Va, and the 2nd best corner in the country. I thought when we got him, Dee, and Dre, that our secondary would be set for years. He needs to step up this year and prove his 5-star ranking. If he doesn't see much PT this year he might be looking at the bust label.

Maybe CNS saw visions of the 2010 IB. I've learned my lesson.

Aside from being a great recruiting tool, playing a formidable opponent in the opener gives CNS an opportunity to assess his team in a real setting. What he is able to gather will establish the basis for the practices from now until Arky. It is hard to tell who may quit if you only play them for a half. HTH

By now everyone knows that you should never question CNS about who plays and who doesn't play. If you don't know what I mean, just attend one of his meetings or press conferences and listen to him when he is asked this question. If you are worried about the depth of the team, well you shouldn't, there is depth everywhere except at QB.  Wink

LOL. Don't be scared of CNS, Jamos. He is not very big and I think you can whoop him. Mess up his hair and you'll own him. HTH

Exactly, him and Morris. When you can practice against a top defense everyday it doesn't take long to become better at your position. I think Ely could come in and handle the job reasonably well now but the deep pass may suffer some.

Funny.  Coach Saban was just on The Zone answering questions.  I kept waiting for the meltdown, but he was pretty calm.  Must be a stack of Little Debbie cakes on the podium.

With our OL, Big Al could hand the ball off 50 times a game and enjoy dark horse Heisman candidate success.

Ask Saban has the depth chart changed in the running back position, or is it still by committee? Cheesy

We need to get some experience back there before we head into SEC play, especially Arkansas.
