Tough season for Austin, pmull, but congrats on the big win last night.  That's something to build on for next year (even though I know there's still an out-of-region game left).  I read the al.com write-up about the game - sounded like a real thriller.  I'm thinking Madison Academy may be the only team north of Birmingham that has a shot at winning it all this year.  Muscle Shoals has had a good run, but that region is pretty weak I'm thinking.

I'm not so sure the Muscle Shoals region is weak. That area includes Hartselle, Cullman and Russellville. Those teams are normally good. Hartselle seems to make a deep run in the playoffs most years.

We play Hartselle next week to end our season.

Russellville and Cullman are both pretty bad 5A teams this year.  Russellville missed the playoffs for the first time in like 15 years, and I know they lost to 3A Deshler.

I hope I'm wrong and Muscle Shoals makes a good run in the playoffs.  They should make the quarters, and after that, things will probably get a little tough for them.

Cullman was 7-1 going into the Muscle Shoals game and rated # 9 in 5A. That is not bad in my book. Hartselle is 7-2 with losses to Muscle Shoals and Cullman. I knew Russellville was not going to the playoffs but I caulked that up to playing in a difficult region.

My bad.  I was thinking Cullman was having a down year as well for some reason.  I was mostly going on my BiL's word (he's a high school coach), and he saw the NW AL 4A and 5A regions were both weak this year, particularly 4A though.  He did say that he didn't think Muscle Shoals was as good as they appear due to the region though.

Austin plays Hartselle tonight. Hartselle is a 5A school but they are a good one. They seem to make deep runs in the playoffs most years. Hartselle is only 8 miles from Decatur so this is a friendly rivalry. Both teams want this game bad.

We close the season every year against Hartselle. The coaches have agreed for several years to play this non-region game on Thursday so can can have an extra day of rest and scout the first round playoff opponent on Friday.

Well they might have been a chance of lightning and they wanted to wait. They are getting funny that way these days. RTR!

Austin ends their season with another close game losing to Hartselle 38-31. Another game that come have gone either way. 

No playoffs so we go to the basketball court where we are normally one of the best teams in North Alabama.

My boys from TCHS have Oxford in the first round on the road. Oof. Never like to go on the road in the playoffs, but maybe the boys can pull it out. Lots of Mobile teams in there.

Yeah, I know. I think we have played them in the playoffs before and I don't recall it turning out well for us.

Region 8 in 5A still have Muscle Shoals and Athens alive. They both won big with shut outs last night. Cullman lost to unbeaten Southside 28-21.

Region 8 in 6A still have two teams left. Bob Jones beat Oxford and Florence beat Clay-Chalkville. Those are pretty good wins over two good teams.
