For me it was Alabama vs Southern Cal (in LA) 1971.  It kicked off the wishbone era, and propelled Alabama into the national spotlight (again).  We danced in the fountain on campus that night!

I don't remember any of the big games for season openers until recently.  Of the recent ones I would have to go with the Clemson game from 2008.  I could not wait for that game because I was anxious to see things get turned around.  John Mark Stallings died just before the season started and I remember thinking how unfortunate it was that he wouldn't live to see us back on top.

Alabama hasn't played a lot of big first games in my life.  So I think I'll have to go with Virginia Tech in '09.  It was the first game in China and of course began the season of my favorite Bama team.

The first big opening game that I really remember is the 1986 Kickoff Classic against #9 Ohio State in the Meadowlands. It wasn't pretty, but the Tide got the job done in a famous football setting.

yep, that was my favorite recent first game.  Cody pushing up the middle on the first play.  The stunned look on Clemson players and fans.

That was the Derrick Thomas debut.  Despite playing like a champion, he is best remembered for consecutive pass interference calls against him near the end of the game (Bama 16-10).

I have 3 to pick from.

1978-Alabama/Nebraska: We avenged the previous year loss 20-3 and totally shut down their great tailback I.M. Hipp. This helped propel the Tide to a National Championship.

1971 & USC

2008-Clemson was a huge statement by Bama & Saban

That's ok because even though it was not a first game...it was my favorite game of all time...perhaps because I was fortunate enough to be there. Legion Field bleachers were literally shaking like it was an earthquake!

I enjoyed the '08 start vs Clemson more than any others I can remember.
