“You can tell where I’m at,” Fowler said to the amusement of reporters. “I can’t hide.”
The junior from Vigor High School near Mobile has been hard to miss during preseason practices. One minute he’s working with the running backs. The next, he’s working with the H-backs.

Quote
“Jalston has to be able to come out of the backfield and catch the football for us,” McCarron said. “He's going to have to play some different positions he's not used to and to make some blocks. But he's done a good job. He's learned a lot in the spring and fall camp. I'm real confident in him.”

I think JF is going to be one of the real keys to the offense this year. He's being asked to do a lot and he has the talent and ability to do it.

Fowler brings a lot options for the defense to prepare for. He can block as a H-back or fullback. He can play RB while EL/Hart/TJY move to a slot receiver. He can catch passes from the H-back or Rb positions. He will also cause match up problems since most LB's have trouble covering a RB. He is also a big power RB who may get a lot of carries this year.

I think the staff has decided he is too good not to find him a place to play.

Cecil Hurt said he believes we will see 5 RBs play against Michigan.

H-back was a critical position for us last year.  Most teams (including LSU) had no answer for it.  A fast H-back with power and good hands can't be covered by a LB, and there's nobody else in most defenses.

Remember, during the BCSNC, Smelley caught a pass on the first Bama play; had about 6 during the first half.  Just put the H-back in motion to switch the coverage, and the LB usually gets coverage on him.  Until some team figures out how to stop this component of the offense, we'll have fun watching LBs chase Fowler.

Plus, he is a huge load to tackle.
