Quote
The longest two weeks of any college football fan's life have arrived, more than enough time for every concern, doubt and worry to blossom. For the University of Alabama, a second scrimmage that brought mixed reviews from Nick Saban only emphasized that feeling.

If you merely looked at the Associated Press poll released Saturday morning, things could (almost) not be better. The Crimson Tide came in at No. 2, and if that's where UA ends up in the final BCS poll, a long journey, there is no doubt Alabama would welcome a Miami meeting with Lane Kiffin's USC Trojans in January.

But there are no guarantees. The margin for the best teams is slim. So when Nick Saban comes out of a scrimmage talking about the drop from first-team quarterback AJ McCarron to his inexperienced backups, fans gulp....

Quarterback is the weak link of the team because of the lack of depth and you can bet there will be some very aggresive defensive players after him. Houston, we have a problem

This is very true. Thankfully, we have a solid offensive line that will allow few opportunities to sack AJ. That being said, nothing's perfect and if he gets hurt, one of the QB's are going to have to grow up quickly. Knowing CNS, he already has a contingency plan if this happens.

What's the saying, "Hope for the best but prepare for the worst"?

one of the things CPBB brought to college football is planning for every scenario..He had a plan for when behind, 2 minutes to go, a plan for rain, for snow, for when the game plan was not working, for 3rd and long, 3rd and short, for on-sides kicks, for fake field goals, AND FOR WHEN HIS QB GOT HURT.

I firmly beleive CNS has a plan for IF AJM gets banged up..I trust in his judgement.

Roll, Tide!

What possible plan can Saban have if we lose one of the best QB's in the country? Revert to the wishbone? Run every play up-the-middle? Start a redshirt freshman with zero experience who is 6'1" 198 lbs or start a true freshman who was in high school 3 months ago? No matter how we sugarcoat this, it is a disaster if McCarron gets hurt.

I think the biggest problem that Morris is having is getting used to the speed of the receivers, in other words his timing. It's a big step step from high school ball to the college level where everyone is fast, offensively and defensively. He threw some good passes yesterday, right on the money, but he threw some ill advised throws as well. He also had some that was a little short that would have gone for a long gainer or he threw it on the wrong side of the receiver giving the defense a chance at the ball. Ely seemed to have more distance on his passes yesterday, something that I thought he was lacking in the spring.

The ill advised throws are what CNS gets so upset about, those that result in turnovers or scores for the other team. If he continues to practice against the 1s, he will get better and I think this is the plan that CNS has for Ely and Morris to get them better in case of an injury to AJ. JMHO

But I think the biggest problem that either would have if they had to take over is the ability to read the defenses and audible when necessary. It takes a lot of reps in practice to conquer this.

The speed and quickness of an SEC defense is another stumbling block for a young and totally inexperienced QB would go with the reading of their defense. You just can't "plug in" an inexperienced QB into an SEC lineup and expect positive results, especially in the middle of a season. Let us hope AJ stays healthy.

I don't want to think about AJ getting hurt. To me that would be worse than the house getting blown down. When we are up by 30 in the first few games I think we see backups in there getting playing time. RTR!

Anyone heard more of Blake sims taking snaps at QB? it sounded as if he might get a few reps in the spring but havent really heard any more about it. He was not bad last year when he got some reps, not great but at least a change of pace.

I think hscoach recently made the comment that he needs to find another position after view some practice footage.  I could be remembering that wrong though.

Indeed he's been working with the QBs, but I don't know how much we'll see him on the field this year.  Maybe with a new OC he'll find a place.

Sims had his share of reps Saturday. Sims is a totally different QB that the other three, he has the ability to run with the football where as the other three does not. He adds another deminsion to their offense such as the wildcat formation does. I wouldn't be too quick to pass judgement on him, he just might have what it takes to pull one out for Bama this year. he is very mobile with his feet. Wink
