Ranking Alabama's sports from 2011-12: No. 17 - Women's basketball

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- For the next two weeks, Andrew Gribble and Don Kausler Jr. will rank, in reverse order, Alabama's 17 sports programs (men's and women's track and cross country will be combined) based on how they fared during the 2011-12 season. More than just the final record will be considered, but there won't be an overwhelming amount of brownie points for a "good job, good effort."

Alas, the countdown begins with the program that has stuck near the bottom of the SEC for more than just one season.

Outside of a relatively successful 2010-11 campaign, the Crimson Tide has yet to put it together under Hudson, who understandably inherited a mess when he took over in 2008. This is his team now, though, and the upcoming season is an important one.

They've been bad for a long time now. I'd like to see CWH achieve some success with them.

The SEC has some great women's BB teams.  I'm not sure why Bama has been so terrible for so long.

Granted things were a little stagnant and mediocre under Rick Moody, but I would take that now after the debacle of Stephany Smith. I just keep hoping that CWH will be able to pull this program together.

CWH has recruited well the last few years but the team is still stuck at the bottom of the SEC. Rick Moody had some very good teams so you can win at Alabama. Foster Auditorium has been renovated to give them their own cozy gym to play in. CWH added some new coaches for next year. He hired the best two HS coaches in the state. One was from Hoover and the other Bob Jones. We need to make some progress this year. We don't have to win the SEC but we need to move to at least the middle of the pack and make post season play.
