Heyward just can't buy a break. All these other injuries he has had, and now this. You have to wonder what he would be capable of if he actually was able to play an entire season injury free.

Agree. It's so strange how certain players seem injury-prone during their careers. Guys like Mickey Mantle, Fred Lynn, Chipper Jones (later in his career), Ken Griffey, Jr., Carlos Beltran, Eric Davis, Bob Horner, and more. At this rate, Heyward will be added to this list. He also had an appendectomy earlier in the season. Amazing.

 Huh?

Who is batting lead-off and playing right field for the Braves?

Schafer (CF) is leading off.  Upton in RF.

Still no score (bottom 4th).

Schafer (0-2 tonight) is leading off, Justin Upton (0-2 tonight) is playing right field. Maholm is off the DL and pitching tonight, hasn't given up a hit yet, they're in the bottom of the 4th. Score 0-0

The Cards picked up a run on 1 hit in the bottom of the 4th but the Braves came back with 2 runs in the 5th on a hit by Maholm and a home run by Justin Upton. Cards are batting in the 5th, Braves 2-1.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but ANOTHER player looks like he might be injured. What next?

The Atlanta Braves are already without Jason Heyward for the next four to six weeks, now it appears the team could lose starting pitcher Brandon Beachy. Beachy, 26, has been scratched from his scheduled start on Sunday and will visit Dr. James Andrews on Monday.

I heard this on the news tonight. In his last outing he looked different with his motion  from his previous outing but I had no idea he was having a problem. Hopefully Dr. Andrews will have some good news for us.

The Cards are starting to pull away by adding another run in the bottom of the 6th and are still batting. Ayala has replaced Maholm for the Braves but he had a wild pitch that let the run score. Downs replaced Ayala and got the 3rd out of the inning, Cards 5-2 after 6 innings.

The big picture is looking bad:

Heyward out 4 to 6 weeks or till around the start of the playoffs. RF & Lead off
Beachy probably gone for the season. RHP Starter
Hudson gone for the season. RHP Starter
Uggla uncertain. 2B
Venters gone for season. LHP Relief (excellent reliever)
O'Flaherty gone for season. LHP Relief (excellent reliever)

Plus, BJ Upton has struggled all year with Uggla.
Medlen RHP Starter has struggled.

Hard to believe we are so for ahead in our division.

You know at one time we was playing fantastic baseball. The injury bug arrived and has taken some our better players so the other MLB players have to step up to the plate and do their job. Easier said than done. RTR!

Final: 6-2 Cardinals.

Schafer, who replaced Heyward as the leadoff, went 0 for 5.

Historically, the month of September has not been kind to the Braves but hopefully  they can dig into their bag of players and find some pleasant surprises.
