-Brandon Moore - Violation of team rules - indefinite   Embarrassed

Good to see CNS so positive, but feels strange to hear him almost bragging on this group when we're only 3-4 days into spring.  I think he knows he has something special that can only fall short from their own efforts and not those of others imposed on them.

Set your DVR: ESPN releases early football TV schedule

"There weren’t many answers for Alabama fans looking to lock in game times for the fall, but ESPN still released an early look at some of the games it’ll air on the family of networks."

CLICK HERE to see the entire list.

Casagrande's note:
-Bama got the U, but Arky got the "mothership" (main ESPN site)  Shocked

-don't be alarmed to the lack of Bama on the schedule as ESPN slates for the networks won't be determined until about two weeks out

FAST forward to 2014 (pun intended)

Somewhat random thought, but...

Bama has built a reputation over the last 60 odd years as a tough-nosed, down hill, ground pounding offense backed by a dominant defense.  So, what does the future hold for our current recruiting trends?

CNS has gone out of his way to recruit top players that serve their high schools well on both sides of the ball and dominate STs play as well.  The common factors in these players, best listed as Athletes, is that they are blazing fast.  Coach Urban Meyer coined the term "team speed kills," but CNS is getting ready to take that to a new level.

Credit to Sarcastro from an old TS post for the following, but first consider the current speed on the roster and that which is expected to come in with next year's class:

Quote
40 yard dash
4.30 - Deion Belue (JUCO)
4.34 - Justin Thomas (commit)
4.35 - Demarcus Milliner
4.40 - 8 way tie

100 meter
10.35 - Bradley Sylve (signee)
10.48 - Corey Grant
10.50 - Trent Richardson
10.64 - Kenny Bell
10.69 - (HTW) Mark Ingram
10.73 - Deion Belue (JUCO)
10.74 - DeAndrew White
10.86 - Demarcus Milliner
10.89 - Ronald Carswell

200 meter
21.18 - DeAndrew White
21.33 - Bradley Sylve (signee)
21.44 - Kenny Bell
21.51 - Corey Grant
21.90 - (HTW) Mark Ingram
22.37 - Deion Belue (JUCO)
22.39 - Kevin Norwood
22.56 - Ronald Carswell
22.70 - John Fulton
22.74 - Blake Sims

Long Jump (feet-inches)
24-0 - DeAndrew White
23-8 - (HTW) Mark Ingram
23-1 - Julio Jones
22-10 - Mark Barron
21-2.5 - Dee Hart
20-11.75 - Deion Belue (JUCO)
20-9.5 - Brent Calloway (signee)
19-5.25 - Bradley Sylve (signee)

-Data was compiled from various sources but primarily athletic.net
-40 yard dash times are probably the least indicative of relative speed between the athletes due to differences in how the test in conducted and timed
-There could be other players equally fast but did not run track (example: Marquis Maze is considered by many to be the fastest player on Bama's roster)
-2011 signees and 2012 commits may post faster times in the upcoming track season(s)
-Bradley Sylve's personal bests are from his sophomore year. Injuries slowed him down his junior year and there was/is speculation as to whether he will ever regain all the speed he once possessed. His 55 meter times so far this year are relativley close to his sophomore times. 100 meter races in the spring should give a good indication as to whether his speed has fully returned.

We already have Sylve wrapped up, and have a decent shot at pulling in on of the top speedsters in the nation over the next two years to play alongside of him in Ronald Darby for 2012 (already the fastest Jr. from above and just behind Sylve, who has been dubbed the speed demon of the Potomac) and Kailo Moore for 2013 (already being heralded as the best back to come out of MS in years and the fastest sophomore in the country in track and field).

That could very well lead to an opening game in 2014 with the three fastest players in HS from 2011, 2012, and 2013 are all on the field at the same time for Bama in either some designed offensive package or STs configuration.  All the while, we are poised to maintain a strong, dominant (apparently self-replenishing) defense coupled with a physical, power style offense.

The perfect mixture of track star speed (with the all important football skills) and power football could lead us to the most entertaining years of football in Bama's history since select periods of the 60s and 70s.  Whomever the OC is over the coming years, he will only be limited by his imagination...even if we don't land all three speedsters.  I'm very excited to say the least.

26 March, 2011

-Sophomore defensive lineman Brandon Moore and senior defensive back Robby Green were again notably missing from the workout, and junior offensive lineman Tyler Love (reported concussion) appeared to be absent as well.

-Kellen Williams worked with the second group at center once again.

-Mark Barron, sophomore Nick Perry and true freshman Vinnie Sunseri worked at the money position during individual drills.

-DeQuan Menzie and Dee Milliner worked at the star position during individual drills. No surprise there, considering both took reps at the spot during the 2010 season. (Che note: In my opinion, watch for Milliner to become the Star main rep as I think Menzie beats him out for a starting position in the base package.  Dee has 3 more years to contribute while this is Menzie's last shot.  He is a true lock-down corner with a year in the program, a bit more experience and playing his last year of eligibility)

-Brian Vogler and Harrison Jones were grouped with the H backs during indvidual drills, while Michael Williams and Chris Underwood made up the tight ends.

Trevor Lacey Not Quite Interested in Kentucky Now?

Today I had a close source to Lacey tell me that the top prospect remaining in the Class of 2011 is down to two teams: Alabama and Auburn.

"Trevor is down to Alabama and Auburn, and he is favoring the Tide."

It seems UK is conceding Lacey to CAG and Bama WOOT WOOT!!

Ok guys hope you like the new space. From now on this is where I'll post. I'm sorry it's been so long but it's been ridiculous few days with Spring practice and coaching clinic as well, busiest days all year so I'll get right into it for y'all

Last 2 days in pads have been amazing, best team I've seen since being in Tuscaloosa even better than what they looked like in Spring before the 09 season. The whole team is extremely hungry and so talented that it's gonna be tough to beat this team and honestly the D is gonna be absolutely ridiculous I have no doubt about that. Here's a few notes on players I've noticed the last 2 practices:

- Dee Hart is even BETTER with pads OMG!I know Saban talked about him today at his presser and he's so impressive with his speed and explosion and adding pads you really get a feel for his escapability and shiftiness and speed outright with pads on WOW! no doubt he'll get a great shot to contribute as a TF

- The most improved player frontrunner to win the award so far HAS to be Brandon Ivory. He came into Spring in a LOT better shape than last year after having a great offseason and slimming down. He is now turning heads the last 2 days in pads and coach Rumph loves the big guy.

- The other big improved guy is Ed Stinson and I know I already mentioned him a little bit but he is now up to 279 so definitely a DE size and still has his speed and explosiveness and athleticism, he has that lean you love seeing in a DE to get around the edge of the OL and really uses his hands and gets that push to get the OL on their heels. There's a reason he's started with the 1st teamers in all the reps, he's gonna be a new starter and with Coach Rumph's coaching, his next DE monster.

- Trent is so motivated, all the guys most would consider leaders and upperclassmen on this team are, but he is like a caged bull ready to be released in the arena, really ready to start running over SEC defenses.

- Aaron Douglas was right about being a bad man in pads, he is no doubt our starter at LT, he was absolutely a brick wall the last 2 days, very impressive

- The QB battle continues to heat up. AJ is really showing that he's becoming a leader and Sims arm strength and accuracy continue to impress. Both QB's are establishing great repoir with the group of WR's it looks like it's gonna be a battle all Spring.

- Hightower has absolutely been a monster the last 2 days, Saban had to pull him out twice of the scrimmage because of hits (we thought he broke Lacy's knee on one hit but Lacy was ok) he is also so hungry now that he's healthy and ready to rip some heads off, him and Upshaw are reLly gonna be something special this year.

- Everyone has also been talking about Vinnie Sunseri, he's been another impressive TF so far and really brings the wood man and already moving guys around and pointing out the right audible and coverage and he's ALWAYS right there at or around the ball to lay the wood or make a play, also VERY impressive on D

- All the top 4 CB's, Menzie, Dre, Milliner, and Fulton are really very much improved from last year, all 4 realized how much they mean to this team's success and have built a bond together, Menzie is so much improved without the lingering effects of that ankle injury, he's ready to show he's a top 10 NFL draft pick type talent at CB really is a shutdown island guy and Dre has finally seemed to turn a corner as well with his awareness and mental aspect, the only real clutch he seemed to have, both he and Milliner were able to really review film all offseason of mental errors and breakdows both guys suffered and both are much better because of it, REALLY feel much better about tha position than I have the last 2 years.

- Quinton Dial continues to impress and Jesse Williams showed some yesterday and today of his speed and the reason he dropped his weight Dow. So he could get after the QB, Coach Rumph has that whole unit looking to be game-changers this year, can't wait to see them in action.

- Bowman impressed some more at WR, showed good speed and outstanding hand skills, DeAndrew and Norwood both look much faster and Norwood is such a physical WR but adding speed is helping him seperate himself, Kenny Bell had a couple long TD's today also he's looking good too, really the whole WR unit is really improving which is great to see.

- A few commits are coming in the next week or so I heard today, we really think a few guys are ready and by the time our camp for recruits rolls around almost all spots are gonna be full, but it will def be a full class this year since there are so many seniors

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – The Braves’ defense Saturday was as clunky as the name of the New York Mets’ rebranded spring-training home, Digital Domain Park.  Five errors in an 8-2 road loss to the Mets raised the Braves’ spring total to 32 errors in 31 Grapefruit League games. Their 126 errors during the 2010 season was one shy of tying Washington and Pittsburgh for most in the National League...........

Alabama returned to the practice fields this afternoon for the fourth time this spring. Expectations of heavy rain moved practice inside the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility, and once again the team worked out in full pads. Today marked the first time this spring that the team has worked on back-to-back days, and the first scrimmage of the spring will take place one week from today.
