Time for my testimonial about the 1969 Tennessee game:
1. The game was in Birmingham, so I picked up my date at 8am. She wasn't taking a purse, so I asked, "Got your ticket?" She said she did.
2. About 9:30 we got to Legion Field, found the student-section entrance and waited in line. Back then it was first-come, first served; competitive seating.
3. At the head of the line she produced her ticket, but had no student ID. "Can't come in." We argued and I explained she and I had classes together, but no dice. ARGHHHHHHH.
4. We walked around until we found a single ticket for sale. I forgot how much, but it was at least $50 (I was on Work Study, so that was a lot).
5. Back into the game and the student section we went.
6. It was a slaughter. Tennessee won easily, something like 42-21. Even their band looked better than ours.
My first Bama-Tenn game was '93 at Legion Field. My sister was a student, and I sat in the student section with her and her boyfriend. It was quite an environment for a 13yo. David Palmer ended up playing quite a bit at QB, and the game ended in a 17-17 tie.
When I was a freshman in '99, I lost my student ID late on Friday before the Tennessee game. I couldn't get a replacement, and ended up getting a friend's ID confiscated trying to use it to get in the game. So on Monday, I had to pay for 2 ID replacements
. We lost the game 21-7, so I wasn't as sad about missing the game.
