Thanks for the play-by-play MD.

A win is a win but...man!!... such sloppy play and still too many missed FTs.  I thought this stuff was going to get better this year. Maybe it still will.

When I saw the post Alabama vs Furman, I thought maybe they were playing up here at Furman, and I was missing it. Furman is literally 10 minutes from where I live.

Furman is a good team. They were ranked most of the year last year. Not a bad win for Bama.

Indeed.  And we needed a win.  We were off to a shaky start.

Now it’s time for another chill-inducing episode of:

THE GOOD

Tide won
Jaden Shackleford, freshman, scored 25 points
4 players in double figures (Shackleford, Lewis 19, Petty 16, Davis 10)
27/53 FG shooting, 50.9%
38 points in paint (FU had 16)
43 rebounds (FU 34)
Tide 7/21 3 pointers, 33.% That is the minimum you want to shoot and be successful
20/27 FT 74% (yes Bama really did this)
Tide 28 bench points, FU 9

THE BAD

Tide only 7 offensive rebounds
Kira Lewis played 38 out of 40 minutes
Kira Lewis had 7 turnovers
Only 11 team assists

AND THE UGLY

22 turnovers, 13 or 14 in first half
Tide shot ball 53 times, FU shot 68 times (due to turnovers I’m sure) Letting the other team take 15 more shots is a waiting disaster. Luckily, FU shot only 31% 21/68 and 11/41 3 pointers for 26.8%

Good story about game with Furman.

Quote
The Alabama men's basketball team defeated the Furman Paladins, 81-73, Tuesday night at Coleman Coliseum. The Crimson Tide (2-2) used stellar defense and a big second half run to hand the Paladins (4-1) their first loss of the season.

Freshman Jaden Shackelford poured in a season-high 25 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field, 3-of-8 from deep and 8-of-10 from the charity stripe to lead Alabama.

Quote
I thought both these guys (Shackelford and Petty) were really locked in on defense. We've said that if you really get locked into defense when you're a skilled offensive player and just play instinctual, shots are going to drop. John was super proud of the fact that his man was scoreless in the second half.

I am not sure a Furman is very good but to see our players guarding bringing in another win is good. RTR!

What differences, at this point, are you seeing with an Oats coached team vs a Johnson coached team?

More hustle and energy, but no improvement in ball control.

The pace of play has certainly picked up.  I see more movement off the ball.

We have to have a shooter who can sink the ball. These 21 3-pointers and hit 7 ain't no good. If we can get to a 75% shooting in all 3 places on the floor then we can play with Duke, Kentucky and Gonzaga's of the college basketball world. RTR!

The pace of play is much faster. After struggling to score points under Grant and Johnson we are averaging 80 points a game so far.

We play a smaller line up. Only one big guy in the game at a time. I like what I see from 6-9 freshman Javian Davis.

The pace of play is causing us to have a lot of turnovers but I think that is a part of learning to play in Oats system.

Free throw shooting is better.

Defense needs to improve.
