Looks now like a worst case scenario for us. Florence still expected to come in near Wrightsville Beach. I have a cousin that lives a mile from there and the storm surge is expected tp be 6-12 ft. Her husband is not well enough to travel and her mother (my aunt) is in a nursing home there, so she and my other cousins are staying. I'll be worried to death about them.

One of my business partners lives in N Myrtle Beach. He lives 2 blocks from the beach. They are expecting a 4-6 ft storm surge. He and his family bugged out yesterday to our other business partner's mountain house in Western NC.

The tract now is expected to head our way after it makes landfall, That means a ton of rain for us and everything in it's path. Luckily, we are on high ground, but many people won't be so lucky and will be affected by flooding.

This is a triple threat major storm (cat 3 or 4 winds, storm surge, flooding) that is expected to be the worst to ever hit the east coast. Prayers for everyone that will be in it's path.

Sounds horrid, 2.   Pray

This morning's forecast has it losing strength to Cat-2 just as it reaches the coast.  Some good news anyhow.

I sure hope that’s true, Chech.

The EYE of Florence is just at the coast right now, barely north of Wilmington, NC.  CNN reports "hundreds of rescues" during the night, especially in the area of New Bern, NC.  The surge is 10' already, so people are either on their 2nd floors or on their roofs.

The "Cajun Navy" has arrived to help, including dozens of airboats and small craft.  321,000 homes are without power.  It's going to be a crazy day.

It's going to be a long next few days for the East Coast. SC and NC will get the brunt of it. Praying for those on the coast who are getting hit the hardest. Looks like it will swing up toward us first of the week, but will be significantly weakened by the then. The bands of this thing are so big that our local news said that Ocean City, MD was getting 25 mph gusts and there could be localized flooding on the lower Chesapeake.

Boy, the flooding along the coast is catastrophic. The winds have kicked up here, but no rain yet. Somebody posted on FB the other day that this is like being stalked by a turtle. That's pretty accurate.

I just saw that we are "likely" to lose power here. I may not get to see the game tonight.  Sad

My cousin, her husband and my aunt in Wilmington are all ok, apparently. The battery is dead on my cousin's phone that I was texting with yesterday, but my other cousin left and went to Charlotte. He reported last night that everybody was safe, but the rainfall totals were starting to cause flooding there. Don't know how bad yet. Prayers continue for them

Hope your folks in Wilmington are indeed okay.  Just hope this storm moves on so they can dry out and clean up.

As for you, hopefully the power will stay on until at least midnight.  This should be a fun game.

As bad as this storm could have been, I am thankful that it weakened before making landfall.  I still can't figure out why people refuse to evacuate when they are under a "mandatory" evacuation order.  I even saw an article about a guy that planned on "weathering" the storm on his boat in a harbor somewhere pretty close to where Florence was to come ashore... I can't help but wonder if they will find his body...
