I'd like to chime in for those worry warts that Saban seems to trying to show only a vanilla offense while breaking in a first year starter at QB. As he develops more faith in AJ, I suspect the offense to open up more.

We might not score 50+ a game with that game plan, but we have won many NCs with that exact game plan and a strong D.

I agree.  A new QB starting a road game before 107K fans, no reason to take chances if the D is good.  I almost expected a Les Miles style, low scoring defensive struggle with Bama winning by wearing down the other team.  However, Saban gave AJ some latitude, enough to allow his development, which portends well for that future, epic struggle circled on the November calendar.  From what I have see so far, those will be the two best teams in the country, and it appears that the respective coaching staffs also see that as well and are working towards that end, while at the same time allowing for the reality and requirement that you win (and improve) each week.
