Good to see you made it home okay and thanks again for you and Brian coming. I like the idea of let's do it again. I hate you two missed the breakfast, that was a life long memory for sure.

I know the defense played very good but I think the offensive line played their best of the year. They have struggled all year but they opened some holes Saturday night, something we all have been waiting for and Henry made them pay. Also, there seemed to be some pop in the tackles that were being made, that was also nice to see versus the arm tackling in some previous games. Overall, best game Bama has had in quite some time and now we need all of this new found energy and performance to bleed over for the remainder of their games.

I wonder if Henry has good hands for receiving.  Drake almost always replaces Henry for screen passes.  I'm sure Henry has caught screens, but don't recall any recently.

Anybody?

I don't remember any screens to Henry.  But Drake could actually play receiver, so that isn't necessarily a ding on Henry.  It may just be a case of using the right tool for the job.

Certainly true.  But I'd like to see Henry catch a few passes (as would the NFL).
BTW, Fournette didn't look like a receiver when the 2 screens were thrown to him (fortunately).

I want to see more plays with both of them in there at the same time.  Maybe send Drake out wide, then throw it to Henry on a wheel route to the opposite side.

We're saving that play for Clempson in the natty game.  Cool

In all seriousness, I don't understand why we haven't seen Drake in the slot this year.

I know Mullaney is our premier receiver there, but still surprised Drake hasn't spelled him at that position.

I know Henry has caught screen passes before.  Also remember he took a swing pass to the house against Oklahoma.  I don't know if the reason Drake has not been used more in the slot is because of the lack of depth at RB and can't get the necessary reps at practice.

That's a good point, Coach. Still, I thought when he was struggling at RB earlier, that they may put him in the slot.

Maybe they thought the development of Harris or Bo would have progressed faster.  I really don't know just throwing some stuff out.

You are right about that. Harris has disappeared and Bo may still be in blocking 101 class.

Good article in the Baton Rouge paper explaining why our defensive lineman overpowered their offense.  Scroll down for a comparison of the national rankings in high school of Bama's front seven defenders and those of LSU's seven blockers.

^^THIS^^

FACTS:,

1.  Mullaney is a better slot receiver than Drake.  He is taller (6'3") than Drake with longer arms.  Mullaney and Ridley have the best hands on the team.

2. Derrick Henry has caught 8 passes for 69 yards this season.

3.  Drake has caught 19 passes for 221 yards this season.

OPINIONS:

a. Using Drake over Henry more frequently for passing plays probably has nothing to do with Henry's ability to catch the football.  It has to do with Drake's ability in space to make people miss.  If you watch NFL games, teams (like New Orleans) might have a bruising back that plays first and second downs, then they'll usually substitute with a smaller, quicker RB on third down.

b. Drake is the second best RB on Bama's roster.  His role there to spell Henry is primary.  Henry had 38 carries v. LSU!  Someone else is needed to help carry the load.

c. Drake is also valuable as a RB backup because he provides a different skill set than Henry.  He isn't Henry II, he is a change up.  Defenders accustomed to tackling Henry low might find that Drake is already past them.

d.  I'm glad they've finally gotten Drake involved in the return game.  It's also nice to see him getting better, back to his old self, at RB.  I think he is best suited as a RB, and he could have a successful career in the NFL as a third down back.
