Does anybody really think all 6 teams between Alabama and Mississippi State could beat Mississippi State?  I hope they play to their potential in the bowl game and blow out one of those teams.  The SEC teams that don't make it into the playoff need to play to establish dominance for next year's selection committee, unlike what we do when we don't make it in.

I don't like the message of "conference champs only."  Most years the SEC #2 can stomp a mudhole in several of the other conference champs.  This year for example,  Mississippi State could beat Ohio State, Florida State, TCU, Baylor, and Oregon.  For that matter, Ole Miss could whip most of them.  Auburn and LSU would give them competitive games and beat at least half of them.

If they are going to put such an emphasis on conference champs, then they need to have enough slots for all 5 conference champs and then 3 at large teams.  Eliminate one of the cupcake games and go back to 11 regular season games.

As for the 4 to make it in, I have no idea.  Alabama and Oregon are in for sure.  The others will know in about 20 minutes.

This is obviously the best long term solution.

Also in this scenario, some upstart could invent an NIT type 4 team or 8 team post season tournament to entertain us during christmas

Brilliant idea.  That would keep the have-nots motivated for the post season.

Think about this.  What would have happened this year had we smacked down Choklahoma like we should have?  TCU and Baylor probably would have never even made it into the conversation this year.
