O Lord, we bless thee for the examples of family religion, and brotherly affection, which thou hast set before us in thy holy word. May we learn to love thee and one another, for Christ’s sake. If rich in this world, may we be humble in spirit and rich in faith, heirs of the kingdom of God. If poor in this world, may we not murmur, but have godliness with contentment, which is great gain. Wherever we are able to pitch a tent, there may we erect an altar. May the fear of God be in our hearts. May the worship of God long continue in our families, and may the blessing of the God of Abraham descend upon us, and keep us evermore. We pray that strifes between brethren in Christ may speedily cease. We pray that the evil heart of unbelief which separates us from thee, and each from the other, may be put away. We pray that meekness, forbearance, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are honest and of good report, may be alike our choice and our pursuit. We pray that we may never be tempted by the prospect of wealth to forego principle, or to forget thee, or to walk in the way that is not good. May we pitch our tent rather where thou art feared, than where wealth tempts us. May we seek the society of the holy, and the wise, and the good, even if not great in this world, in preference to the company of them who are wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly. Make, we beseech thee, the seed of Jesus as the dust of the earth, so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall his seed be numbered. May Christ speedily arise and take the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; because it is his, and ours in him, according to thy gracious promise. Lift upon us the light of thy countenance; be merciful to us, and forgive us our sins, the sins of our thoughts, our desires, our affections, our love of things that perish in preference of things that last for ever: alike pardon in Christ and destroy in our hearts, our too frequent preference of the wealth of this world to the unsearchable riches of Christ. And help us henceforth to regulate all we do, and all we think, and wheresoever we sojourn, each under a deep sense of fear for the Lord Jesus. In Jesus name we pray. AMEN
