The bush hog doesn't differentiate between snakes.  The best mouse - rat prevention I have found is a couple of good outside cats.

Sorry I didn't see this earlier.  Yes, that looks like a Western terrestrial garter snake (Thamnophis elegans terrestris).  Cool thing about this snake species is that it has numerous color morphs, and sometimes a person can find 4 very different colored snakes in a single field.

I'm not crazy about snakes, but I do leave them alone. I figure they serve a purpose getting rid of vermin, so I'll even avoid running over them in the road.

I kill poisous snakes. I just seen a rattlesnake in Fla a couple of days ago that was the largest ever found. I don't have a link it was in the news but I deleted the e-mail. Sorry. RTR!
