I have posted this at least twice before, we won't really know how good (or bad) any team is until after 8 games. We will then be able to assess players, teams, defenses, offenses, O-lines, etc. I have STRONG reservations about Misses State, Old Misses, Arkansas, A&M, and other teams around the country.

Some people on here are acting like obama lovers, when it comes Sims, if you dont agree with them and everything he does, then you're a racist and everything else. Time to grow up

1.  No one in this thread has said anything about race besides YOU.  This has absolutely nothing to do with race.
2.  This has absolutely nothing to do with Obama either.  No politics in The Quad.
3.  Apparently, according to Coach Nick Saban and the rest of the coaching staff, Blake Sims is our best option at QB right now.
4.  Everything I have seen on the field in 4 games appears to back up #3.
5.  Sims is not Peyton Manning, but he doesn't have to be.  Coach Bryant would take as many players like Sims as he could get.
6.  Coker is not ready yet.  Coker is making progress though, and he may surpass Blake at some point this season.
7.  IF Coker does surpass Sims and Coach Saban decides to play him, then I will support him then as much as I support Sims now.
8.  Each week that goes by makes it more difficult for Coker to make up ground since Sims is gaining more and more valuable game experience.

I don't understand why any Alabama fan would criticize Sims so much.  He is doing the best he can do with the talent he has.  All he has done so far is win games.  It is not his fault that there isn't a "better" option at QB.  He is making the absolute most of his opportunity though.  Why is that a bad thing?

I really don't see what your position is here.  Are you disagreeing with Coach Saban for not playing Coker?  Are you disappointed in Sims because he is not "talented" enough?  Are you trying to convince the rest of us to join in with you and bash Sims for his so-called deficiencies?

The only stated position you have made is that Sims has thrown the ball to Cooper in tight coverage on a certain 3rd down play.  My counter point is that Coker threw the ball to Cooper in tight coverage against what many have said is the best cornerback in the country, and it ended up being a spectacular TD catch.  Chechem countered with the fact that AJ, as well as ALL QBs, will occasionally try to force the ball into tight coverage.  But instead of responding to either of those points you throw your hands up in the air and accuse us of needing to "grow up".

From what I have seen, you have not put forth a position that can be supported by facts, logic, and reasoning.  Instead you bring race and politics into the discussion.  Now, who is it that is acting like a child here?

 Undecided

If you want to have a serious conversation about this topic, then I, and many, many others on here, are happy to do so.  Otherwise, I am just as happy to not keep having this discussion, over and over and over.

My analogy was that when you don't agree with someone on this forum (especially certain individuals or if you don't give 110% praise for everything that is Bama) you are bashed for being any number of things just as many tend to do in politics. It just happens that the current President's race is used as an excuse by many. It was not my intentions to make this about race as it is about the best person for the team. This has nothing to do with AJ either but about Sims and Coker. How is that I am "bashing" Sims by making a observation? Do you really want to make the case that a good D will not catch on to his staring down his receivers which could cost the team a few games, or that the continual throwing into double and triple coverage when you have a wide open receiver won't hurt the team?
There was a logical discussion going on here but I guess that having an opinion that doesn't fit the general consensus and stating it is not allowed here. Sorry for hurting everyone's feelings.  Kiss

You know, we could have a discussion if you'd just discuss.
My point (by posting the pic of AJ's interception) was that all QBs occasonally make bad reads, and throw to the wrong receiver.
Sims is not a polished QB.  He's been on the team 5 years, but hardly played.  The thread about Sims' history (high school to current) was very revealing: Click here for link
Sims grew up a lot this past summer, plus Kiffin has helped mucho.

Back to the point.  Sims isn't perfect.  Frankly, I had NO IDEA he'd be as good as he's been.  I only knew the Sims from spring games - UGH!
But he's the best we've got.  What else can we do?

I agree with this point to a certain degree. However, like Chechem said, discuss your point with more specifics or do like SUPERCOACH just did and list the items you are talking about. Personally, I enjoy a good discussion & don't mind if someone disagrees. We all have a point-of-view, even if I'm always right.

I am pretty sure you haven't hurt anyone's feelings here.  But we aren't going to allow you to make ridiculous accusations without being challenged.  And by ridiculous accusations I am not referring to your comments on Sims.  I am referring to the idea that we somehow implied you were a racist because you criticized Sims.  I am also referring to this whole nonsensical idea that you can't express an unpopular opinion or criticize a player.  Poppycock!  I have criticized Drake many times for ball security.  I have also criticized AJ at times for making poor decisions and throwing in to coverage.  I have criticized Coach Saban for running out the clock and playing for OT in the 2011 LSU game at Bryant-Denny.  There is nothing wrong with expressing an opinion, even if it is an unpopular one or a critical one.  However, my advice to anyone that wants to express an opinion though is quite simple:  don't get upset and all bent out of shape if people respectfully disagree with your opinion.  Just because you express an opinion, that doesn't mean that everyone, or anyone for that matter, will agree with you, even if you happen to be 100% correct.  If you want to express an opinion, be prepared for people to disagree with you.  And if you are right, be prepared to back it up, respectfully

I was at the Florida game. There were 102,000 fans in the stadium concerned when Sims got hurt. Coker came and did a very good job. He helped get up a much needed TD. However, the loudest cheer of the day was when Sims came back into the game. That is a lot different than a month ago when everyone thought Sims was not talented enough and Coker was our best option. Race and politics did not win him the job or change the fans mindset about him. It was his outstanding play.

We all all have short memories and what have you done for me lately mentality. Sims has one bad game and the #2 QB, in this case Coker, becomes the fan favorite.
