The process of adjusting to a new offense, team and coaching staff has been a challenge. Competing with a fifth-year senior like Sims, Coker entered August with room to gain. Nick Saban said the Alabama newcomer still has work to do gaining comfort in the Tide offense.
"I mean, I don't think you can ever master any playbook," Coker said. "I feel a lot more comfortable than I did last month, I can tell you that."
One of the issues he had Saturday was a product of that learning curve. Driving the Tide in the final minute of the half, the ball was at the FAU 4-yard line with seven seconds on the clock. Coker didn't get the full play call relayed from the sideline so he called one of his own.
It ended with a sack and zeros on the clock.
"It was just a big fiasco really," he said. "I mean, I screwed everything up." ...
At least he's a realist.
It's a learning moment!
