Oklahoma freshman running back Joe Mixon was charged Friday (Aug 15) with misdemeanor assault stemming from an alleged incident in which he was accused of punching a woman in the face.

According to the Cleveland County district attorney's office, the penalty for an act resulting in gross injury could be up to one year in jail if convicted.

Oklahoma has not made a decision on Mixon's status.

"The University of Oklahoma understands that charges have now been filed against Joe Mixon based upon an investigation by local law enforcement agencies,'" athletic director Joe Castiglione said in a statement. "Under its policies, the university must independently evaluate student conduct matters and will review the facts as part of its internal process. At an appropriate time, the university will determine Mixon's status."

Should be a felony-assault charge.   

"At an appropriate time"?  What, after 4 years?

The powers-that-be are covering up for OU. I refuse to believe that you an hit someone in the face, break bones, & then be charged with a misdemeanor. If you hit a cop and broke bones would it be a misdemeanor in Oklahoma?

 , MD I think you hit the nail on the head. OU took the play book of FSU when it comes to law breakers. I really think this is sad for the kid because he will know he can do anything and get away with it as long as he gains yardage. I also think this kid needs pray desperately before he ends up in prison. JMHO. RTR!
