1) Saying Strong has more talent than when Saban arrived is like saying Alaska is a little bit colder than Florida. We had that disaster called Shula, plus probation.

2) In 2013 Rivals ranked Texas recruiting class at #20, in 2014 at #24. In 2012 it was #2 but several of those recruits have been shown the door.

3) I don't have a clue to how having a hip music scene affects football, recruiting, or alumni. Alumni come from all over the state and the country for that matter. The same alumni who were talking a $100 mil for Saban or not going to be happy with Strong unless he wins big, fast. The biggest plus for Texas is being in a conference with only 2 really solid programs, Oklahoma & Baylor & no championship game. Okie State can be good to average and Kansas State can cause problems but they are coached by a soon-to-be 75 year old coach. When he first retired, the program returned to its usual incompetence and then he came back. How much longer can he hold it together?

1 and 2.  OK, so I'm the master of understatement.  Bottom line is that Strong probably has a hodgepodge of talent, not recruited for his system or perhaps any system, but talent nonetheless.

3.  True, Texas is a huge state with varied interests.  I always felt Strong was overrated at Louisville.  While the Big 12 isn't the SEC, it isn't the Big East either.  And Strong is no Saban -- he's an Urban Meyer coordinator.  I don't know if he will be successful there. 

Overrated in what way? I am interested in your observation on that. Plus, the Big East is definitely nothing compared to the Big 12 so he will be more challenged than at Louisville.

I think Strong is a good coach. Texas will be much more difficult the Louisville. If the power brokers at UT will give him a chance I think he will do well. If they do not like his color or if they expect immediate results he may not survive. He signed up for a difficult job.

In a January 2009 interview with the Orlando Sentinel, Strong expressed his belief that race played a large part in the reason that he hadn't been offered a head coaching job at that point. Just an opinion, everyone has one. I think he's a good coach.  But perhaps not deserving of all the hype, coaching in the Big East.  I guess the Texas job is his chance to prove himself worthy of the hype.

I'm not a believer in Strong either, until he actually wins and beats real football teams. I'm very interested in how he will defend against the offenses like OU, Baylor, Okie State, etc. Also, can he recruit?
