Disturbing and surprising list, especially Sears:

I noticed this AM that SAAB doesn't have enough money to make payroll, not a good sign.

I think Sears has been going under for years.  Isn't that the reason the company had to join forces with KMart?

Sears made some great washing machines.  I had Sears Kenmore washers and dryers for years.  And when my sons were small, I always bought them Tough Jeans (I think that was the name) from Sears.  They held up so well.

I agree, CP. Sears used to have really good appliances, and probably still do, but other brands just "seem" better. There is a Sears franchise store here and I buy some things from them but not a lot.

Great story about Saab. The automaker is in Sweden and they went to the governmnt last year for a bailout. Overwhelmingl, the voters said NO! Something like 70% of the people said no. They asked, why should their tax money be used to bail out a private ompany? Good question.

Particularly since bankruptcy protection is designed for just such a case (U.S. law). This spreads the losses out among the companies creditors , not the taxpayers.
