I prefer to think of it as a necessary blocking mechanism.

I would wager most, if not all, of us are introverts who prefer this type of less direct communication.  I see it as healthy.

You're actually dead-on with that observation.  I think it's actually been proven that most introverts and those shy by nature are far more comfortable in this type of arena.  I'm uncomfortable in crowds.  Which is why I don't log on if I see more than 15 registered members logged on here.    Crazy eyes
